Responsibilities: The Specialist in Public Affairs will provide strategic marketing and communication consultation to various clients. This position develops strategic content plans for identified organizational priority areas and manages projects from inception to completion. The specialist will facilitate the implementation of system-wide Public Affairs strategies; ensuring messages are effective, accurate and timely. This position responds to news media requests or designates an alternate resource. The specialist will provide evaluation of communication and marketing plans to ensure they align with the institution's mission. The specialist will assist on various projects as necessary. The specialist must have the ability to work in a complex environment with multi-dimensional points of view, self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized. The specialist will promote a productive, collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential. Must be proficient with information technology and management of database and internet applications. This position requires occasional travel and the flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree and five years of public and media relations, communications or marketing experience is required; OR three years of experience as a Mayo Clinic Public Affairs Associate. A broad-based knowledge of marketing and communication strategies is also required.

Additional Qualifications: A Master's degree and three years of experience in public and media relations, communications or marketing is preferred. A degree in business, public relations, communications, or marketing is preferred. Requires excellent skills in oral and written communications, critical thinking and active listening. The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork. Must be comfortable with ambiguity. Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences. The ability to work independently, work with multiple projects and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is essential.

Compensation Detail: Exempt = Salaried - Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every two weeks is approximately $2,247.20 based on a full time position.
