TITLE: Membership Sales Representative



RESPONSIBLE TO: Membership Manager & Assistant Manager



SUPERVISES: N/A



 



BASIC FUNCTION:



This position is responsible for initiating and completing membership sales transactions with Zoo visitors and Kansas City residents, both in person and by telephone, in a friendly and positive manner, answering all inquiries for Zoo information and providing superior customer service. This position will be expected to meet and exceed membership sales goals and inspire greater community support for the Kansas City Zoo.



 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Initiating and completing membership sales transactions, including greeting guests, suggestive selling and utilizing sales techniques, while providing outstanding customer service.

  • Processing membership transactions quickly and accurately, utilizing proper cash handling and credit card procedures.

  • Assisting with representing the Zoo at both on-site and off-site events in order to promote Zoo memberships.

  • Assisting with guests' needs, including questions, inquiries and Zoo directives.

  • Keeping work area clean and neat at all times, including stocking of marketing materials, ticket stock, maps and other supplies.

  • Maintaining an updated and thorough knowledge of all aspects of the Kansas City Zoo, in order to answer customer questions and promote Zoo memberships.

  • Working cooperatively with all guest service team members.

  • Abiding by all FOTZ policies, procedures and operational directives.

  • Performing other duties as assigned by membership and marketing managers.



 



PHYSICAL EFFORT:



Active. Sufficient mobility, vision and hearing are needed to ensure a safe work environment. Job requires high levels of standing, walking, sitting and occasional lifting.



 



WORKING CONDITIONS:



Position works in both indoor and outdoor environment and must be able to deal with extreme temperatures.



 



RELATIONSHIPS:




  • Internal: Daily with management and employees

  • External: Daily with guests and volunteers



 



SKILLS NEEDED:




  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and phone communication skills.

  • Ability to deal professionally and effectively with all types of people, utilizing sales techniques to sell Zoo memberships.

  • Must be able to count change and handle money.

  • Must be able to operate cash register and other equipment.



 



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



Must be 16 years of age or older. Previous related sales experience is preferred.

EMOTIONAL:



Medium. Hectic environment with occasional periods of high stress.
