Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Denali Natural History Tour is a 4 to 5 hour long tour that travels as far as Mile 17 of The Denali Park Road at The Primrose Pullout. Highlights of the tour include an interpretive experience at the Savage Cabin and a visit with a cultural interpreter at Primrose. Located in Denali National Park, this position is highly visible to many Denali National Park Visitors. DNHT Drivers are responsible for providing a safe and comfortable tour experience into Denali National Park while providing a compelling narrative centering on the natural and cultural history of Denali National Park. DNHT Drivers must have a Class B CDL with a passenger endorsement and a clean driving record. CDL training and Certified Interpretive Guide training is available for the right candidate. Previous customer service experience and interpretive training is preferred.

Essential Functions:

Interpretive Naturalists will be responsible for creating a 4.5 to 5 hour tour focusing on the Denali National Parks cultural and natural history. It must meet or exceed the National Park Service interpretive standards. Usually one tour a day can be expected, and on several days, two tours may be required. The workweek usually consists of five days working and two days off. A 40-hour workweek is not guaranteed, although there are some days or weeks where overtime will be necessary. Extensive driving and interpretive training is provided at the beginning of the season, along with ongoing coaching as needed. Employee will be responsible for maintaining all federal and state requirements for holding a Commercial Drivers License and will abide by all rules, regulations and company policies in regards to operating company vehicles. Employee is responsible for general knowledge of corporate environmental policies and procedures and how they relate to their job functions. Corporate policies and procedures are posted on bulletin boards or can be accessed at dpr.web. Employee is responsible for knowing the environmental aspects and associated impacts of their job position. Job specific Environmental Aspects and Impacts will be communicated by Dept. Managers during EMS training. Environmental objectives and targets will be communicated by dept. managers for each dept. during EMS training. Employee will have no less than 1 performance review per season to include an evaluation of performance standards as they relate to work instructions addressing their departments environmental aspects. Employee will be aware of environmental objectives and targets within their department and how the objectives and targets affect their job performance.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have an education or previous experience in interpretation, environmental education, ecology, biology or any natural sciences. A Class B Commercial Drivers License with airbrakes and a passenger endorsement as well as previous bus driving experience (minimum 9 months) is required for this position. Ability to meet NPS Interpretive Standards. An ability to work in a team environment and in close quarters is desired. Must have effective communication skills. Must have excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of sub-arctic ecosystems is a plus.

Lifting Requirements:

MEDIUM - Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
