Laboratory Scientist II

Overview:

• 60%- Preforms tests that require specialized knowledge, training and judgement. Adapt and validates methods from methodology; preforms quality control functions, as described in protocols on assigned tests; prepares reagents, quality control and related materials for testing; provides results to appropriate individuals following agency-established guidelines; provides explanation of basic methods and procedures to clients and customers. Tests a variety of road materials including paint, salt, fuel, etc. Tests materials by wet chemistry methods (titrations, separations, fusions & precipitations) as well as by instrumentation (XRF, FTIR, Fuser, Density Meter, pH Meter). Compares test results to manufacturer's ranges and specification standards.
• 20%- Monitors equipment to evaluate operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions; preforms routine maintenance.
• 20%- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• BS in Chemistry or related field with 3-5 years' experience
• MS in Chemistry or related field with 1-2 years' experience
