MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or (2) a high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience handling items of evidentiary value, computerized management information systems, or operating multifunction automated system equipment. (3) College credit hours from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience.

DUTIES: Incumbent is responsible for receiving, securing, packaging, distributing, and returning evidence; maintaining the chain of custody records; assigning computerized bar code labels; maintaining evidence vault; advising law enforcement personnel on the disposition of evidence; and training law enforcement on the limitations and capabilities of the crime laboratory. Incumbent utilizes the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for tracking of evidence; prepares data for input into the system; generates inventory and control reports; takes appropriate action to correct errors; and assists in the maintenance of the system. Incumbent maintains administrative compliance through the review of all appropriate administrative policies and procedures and by completion of all administrative paperwork by established deadlines; assists section supervisor with various projects as needed; and provides a high level of quality internal and external customer service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of laboratory terminology; knowledge of correct procedures for handling evidence; knowledge of basic mathematics; knowledge in the use of computerized keyboards and basic computer operations; skill in communicating procedures to others; skill in operating multifunction automated systems equipment; ability to interpret and follow technical instructions; ability to testify in court regarding chain-of-custody; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to input data utilizing a variety of keyboards.
