PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing.

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464.

At least 3 years of nursing experience, 1 year of which is in women's or child's health.

A valid driver's license free of any major infraction and access to an insured reliable vehicle to be used for work purposes (mileage will be reimbursed).

DESCRIPTION

Duties and responsibilities are those of a public health nursing position assigned to provide comprehensive public health nursing services in the Immunization and Family Planning clinic.

Utilizing the public health nursing process, the incumbent will be required to independently assess and administer adult/child immunizations, and independently provide family planning services to women, males and teens.

Provides public health advanced level assessment of health status and health care needs of individuals, families and/or groups of individuals (particularly those with complex and multiple problems and communicable disease) in a variety of settings, including clinics, schools, homes, and other public/community facilities.

Provides immunization (Outreach) in a variety of sites in the community as requested and/or needed.

Case manages client health needs as assigned.

May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent include but are not limited to special needs shelters, Red Cross shelters, and/or other functions.

Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of nursing, public health principles, practices, and/or techniques.

Knowledge of Immunizations and how to administer them.

Knowledge of family planning services and contraceptive methods.

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, communities, and organizations.

Ability to educate staff, clients, organizations, and communities on importance of immunizations and health.

Ability to prioritize, organizes, and schedule work assignments to meet deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to utilize a computer for data entry and health record documentation.

Ability to maintain records and reports according to program standards.
