The Consultant, Safety (Lab) increases health and safety awareness at all levels within the organization. Primary responsibilities include: maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, CAP and Occupational Health and Safety programs as applicable; oversee laboratory and chemical safety for teammates; conduct periodic laboratory and facility safety inspections; maintain and develop chemical, biological and safety related policy, procedures or other documents; maintain up to date chemical inventory and SDS and manage biological and chemical waste disposal plans; and lead safety education for the laboratory operations. This position reports to the Quality Manager or Assistant Medical Director

* Oversees safety and health issues and has the authority to stop or modify unsafe operations/practices within or outside the scope of the Incident Action Plan, notifying the Manager of actions taken

* Conducts regular safety audits of facility and teammate compliance

o Monitors fire and electrical safety with Facility Manager

o Evaluates ergonomics, manages chemical hygiene program, waste management program, monitors PPE and infection prevention programs

o Monitors general safety practices in the clinical laboratory and support operation departments; ensures annual safety competency and training is performed

o Monitors security access under direction of Facility Manager

* Ensures compliance with current health and safety legislation and/or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of teammates and visitors

o Manages SDS and chemical hygiene program in conjunction with Laboratory Operations; monitors use of chemicals, inventory, storage and education of teammates

o Manages infectious disease reporting and state reportable programs, oversees updates per state and local requirements

* Investigates and reports on all serious/critical personal injury accidents occurring to teammates and/or visitors to the appropriate senior leader, and to assist in the investigation of all accidents/incidents that result in substantial damage

* Responds to teammates safety concerns

o Investigates and reports on complaints of hazardous working conditions to the Director and/or other appropriate senior leader

o Tracks trends of injury/exposure for engineering or work practice control changes

o Manages teammate Hepatitis B vaccination program, records of exposure, examination and follow up

* Responds to fires and other emergencies on or about the property

* Coordinates registration and removal of hazardous waste

* Arranges for Occupational Health and Safety testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants as may be necessary

* Acts as liaison with Facilities manager regarding for all related governmental bodies and regulating agencies

o Interacts with municipal and State Emergency planners, update plans, organize exercises and evaluate procedures

o Interacts with the fire department regarding emergency procedures, communications and fire safety education programs

* Coordinates the training of personnel in areas of safety, accident prevention and investigation, work place inspections and other matters (as applicable) related to implementing safety procedures in facilities

* Coordinates the facility emergency preparedness procedures and act as the organizations emergency on- site representative

o Assists leadership team in emergency preparedness

* Develops, reviews and updates appropriate sections of the Emergency Procedures Manual

* Oversees and manages the Safety Committee

* Ensures that facility/labs safety practices are aligned with DaVita corporate practices

* Assumes other duties as may be assigned

BS/BA in

related field, Industrial Hygienist, or appropriate combination of education and experience

*

At

least three (3) years Lab or Hospital

experience as a safety officer- preferred

*

Previous experience managing projects ranging from

simple to complex, including projects

with several sub- teams

Ability

to

coordinate projects

and teams not geographically

co-located

Ability to work within

deadlines and with

multiple priorities; ability

to adapt to changing priorities
