POSITION OVERVIEW:

The delivery driver's primary function is to deliver and distribute Nestl Products. Additional responsibilities include: delivering and unloading palletized orders; checking product quantities for accuracy, and maintaining all necessary paperwork. Delivery Drivers manage customer expectations regarding delivery and receiving instructions as well as managing backroom storage. The Delivery Driver is required to effectively communicate with sales personnel and management while maintaining all Federal and State and D.O.T. regulations and requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Decision Driving skills including proper following distance, proper eye lead, proper stopping distance, checking intersections, using safety wedge, proper use of horn, left/ right turn execution, seat belt use, checking and scanning mirrors, proper speed maintained, proper lane observance, parks in appropriate locations and avoids backing-up.

* Know the Accounts (check-in practices, tendencies of other vendors, etc.) and create rapport with appropriate staff members in all accounts, to gain trust and build a positive working relationship. Communicate with staff by name during deliveries, and exhibit a professional, polite & assertive demeanor. Respond to customer requests, and forward customer requests on to sales representative or management as needed. Communicate with sales representative or customer service center on special needs accounts or depots.

* Follow the strategies and procedures outlined in the Work Methods Manual as verified on work-withs. Eliminate waste and maximizes productivity through Work Methods (Establish a routine, control the situation, sense of urgency, be proactive, Keep product mobile, no re-work, etc.).

* Adhere to planned routing stop sequence, to meet open/close receiving time windows and minimize overall mileage & travel time. Follow prescribed travel path, adjusting to mitigate delay only when necessary.

* Maintain neat and orderly backrooms, pick up credits on appropriate basis, place loads in proper freezer area, follow store procedures, and complete paperwork appropriately. Be mindful of fragile product, always handling carefully.

* Complete proper paperwork for returns, miss-picks, and transfers. Physically return product to warehouse when needed. To achieve above expectation when physical inventory is completed the variance should be zero.

* Conduct activities in a safe manner, follow corporate safety guidelines and requirements (no cell phones while driving, pre-trip/ post-trip inspections, proper bending, hand safety, etc.), use PPE, proactively address any unsafe conditions observed, locks vehicle, and completes DOT paperwork. Keep a clean and orderly cab and trailer.

* Prepare truck for operation by inspecting and documenting general condition-validating adherence to DOT standards.

* Demonstrate Decision Driving skills including proper following distance, proper eye lead, proper stopping distance, checking intersections, using safety wedge, properly using horn, left/right turn execution, using seat belt, checking and scanning mirrors, maintaining proper speed, observing proper lane, park in appropriate locations and avoiding backing.

* Respond to change with positive attitude, offers suggestions for improvements to increase effectiveness of change, support new initiatives, and maintain an open mind.

* Delivery to network of cross-dock facilities inclusive of moving route trucks into loading position and loading of product onto route trucks in the appropriate route and store sequence.

* Responsible for timely delivery to distributor customers and verifying case quantities to ensure over, shorts and damages are accounted for at the customer dock.

* Responsible for pick up of raw backhaul orders based on daily dispatch assigned.

* Communicate directly with management and team members on issues, openly shares ideas with others, encourage performance in others, give feedback when needed, train new employees when applicable.

* Responsible for updating and providing accurate store receiving windows to be adjusted in Roadnet.

* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & EDUCATION LEVEL:

* Be at least 21 years of age for DOT covered position

* High School Diploma / GED equivalent

* Must have a valid Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement meeting DOT requirements

* Successful completion of post offer background checks, hair drug testing, DOT physical and motor vehicle/moving violations records check.

* Ability to work early morning/late night hours

* Willing to work over 40 hours when required

* Willing to work any day of the week, weekends and Holidays

* Ability to work safely

* Ability to read, write and speak English

* 2 years or more Class A driving experience in a business environment preferred

* Grocery/Retail experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Standing/Walking: Frequently, while performing some duties in warehouse; walking, up to 4 hours per shift on concrete surfaces.

* Lift/Carry: Frequently, 1-5 pounds individual ice cream products up to 800-1000 items per stop or 4,000-7,000 items daily- no carrying. Occasionally (15%), up to 40 pounds boxed pizza and/or 6-8 pack ice cream product from pallet to freezer rack or six-wheel cart, carry short distance up to 6 feet.

* Sitting: Occasionally (10%), while operating vehicle between customer locations, can be subject to heavy traffic and vibration of the vehicle while in motion. Static position when driving vehicle to and from customer locations.

* Head/Neck: Frequently, moving head and neck while loading/unloading items from vehicle to carts, carts to freezer shelves and performing back room stocking duties off loading pallets of products to freezer carts.

* Push/Pull: Frequently, using both hands and arms while moving materials via wheeled cart, exerting a force up to 15-35 pounds depending on surface/slope. Rarely have to move loads between 35-75 pounds.

* Hands/Arms: Frequent use of both hands/arms above shoulder reaching while stocking products. Frequent use of both hands/arms throughout the work shift while forward reaching, handling, gripping, power grasping, fingering and above shoulder reaching while stocking ice cream products.

* Climbing: Rarely or not at all depending on employee height and store set-up/location, using small step ladder.

* Bending/Twisting: Frequently bending at waist 30-45 degrees while loading/unloading items from carts to freezer shelves and performing back room stocking duties off loading pallets of ice cream products to freezer carts.

* Kneeling/Crouching: Occasionally, while stocking of freezer display shelves or off loading pallets at floor level.

* Balance: wet & icy conditions in freezer units and condensation on tile floors as well as leaning into freezer units to stock shelves.

* Head and Neck: Frequently, moving head and neck while loading/unloading items from vehicle to carry aids, carry aids to freezer shelves and performing back room stocking duties, and off - loading pallets of products to freezer carry aids.

* Other Demands: Subject to cold temperatures -20 degrees F, while working in store freezer units up to 20 minutes, 5-7 times daily.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* Work is performed 50-80% of time at customer locations delivering products, 20-50% on the road driving vehicle.

* Hazards: Driving a variety of 12-15 ton vehicles in all types of weather, slippery surfaces, lifting hazards, exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, traffic hazards, fall hazard from work on dock and tailgate, fumes, odors and some bouncing, jarring, vibration from truck operation.

* Machinery: Moving machinery, such as bailers, compactors and potentially fork trucks.

* Tools/Equipment Used: 12-15 ton truck, hand truck, pallet jack, forklift, carts, dollies, straps, lift gates, and pallets

* Safety Equipment: Seat belts, gloves, hearing and eye protection as required.

* Employee is exposed to moving machinery such as bailers, compactors and potentially fork trucks.

* Normal traffic hazards while operating vehicle.
