Senior Automation Engineer / Machine Designer

Position Overview:

Our client recently won a multi-million dollar deal with a medical device company and is actively looking for (several) Mechanical Automation Engineers with experience designing automated machinery / equipment. This person needs to be able to lead an automation project from design review, machine build, installation, validation and into production. In essence, the person will "own" the automation line assigned to them. The systems our client will be installing are basically copies of systems installed elsewhere in the world, but there will be subtle changes required to accommodate our facility, material handling systems and MES systems.

Purpose:

This individual will be involved with the development and implementation of both automated manufacturing solutions, as well as semi-automated manufacturing solutions for our client's sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This individual will be responsible for taking leadership throughout the life cycle of the automation projects
    • This will be from concept to feasibility, as well as from test through production
  • This individual will be involved with developing and deploying automation into our client's sites
  • This individual will also be responsible for developing automation specifications, as well as automation requirements
  • This individual will also be developing budgeting and scheduling for the projects, as well as managing these projects to make sure they are being executed within those constraints
  • This individual will be involved with conducting design reviews on the equipment, as well as providing guidance for the design for the suppliers
  • This individual will also be involved with the supervision, testing, and installation to reassure that all the specifications are being met
  • This individual will be drafting protocols and assist in activities related to equipment qualification
  • This individual will also be responsible for attending meetings with customers to get feedback, as well as present some of the manufacturing solutions for our client
    • They will be interfacing with clients in regards to any issues with product development, as well as conducting design analysis
  • This individual will be responsible for preparing customer quotations for any / all projects related to automation
  • This individual will also be preparing RFQ's and quotations from suppliers
    • They will then be evaluating quotations from suppliers to identify what the best combination would be to deliver a technical solution in a timely and effective manner

Requirements:

  • This individual must have at least ten years of experience in a technology based industry
    • Should be a mix of both manual assembly, and automated technique
  • This individual should have some sort of industrial engineering experience, working with both LMHV and HMLV assembly processes
  • This individual must have knowledge / experience with automation tools and automation processes
    • Vision, robotic, material handling, ASRS, PLCs, fasteners / screws, conveyors, HMIs, lasers, machining, etc.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working with manufacturing processes
    • (Ideally with medical devices or pharmaceuticals
  • A Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree
    • Preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge / Experience with Fixturing / Tooling, Lean Manufacturing, Layout, Demand Flow, Simulation Tools, and / or Cell Concept
