Job Summary North Star Reach Position Description Title: Program Director (full-time / exempt)

Location: Based at North Star Reach's office in Ann Arbor, MI and facility in Pinckney, MI.

Reports to: Director of Operations

North Star Reach, an independent 501(c)(3) organization, is opening a new universally accessible resident camp facility to provide a life-changing camp experience for children with serious health challenges and their families entirely cost-free. We rely on the charitable gifts of generous donors to create camp magic and a strong culture of community values ( www.northstarreach.org/aboutus/values-mission ) that serve as compass points to guide our way. Some have called what we do fun, but we like to think of it as SeriousFun. In fact, we liked that idea so much, we are a provisional member of SeriousFun Children's Network ( www.seriousfunnetwork.org ), the world's largest family of camps for children with serious illnesses. Through year-round resident camp programs, we strive to leave a positive impact on all of our participants and those who support us.

Position Overview

If the Princess Pat is not just your favorite member of the royal family but also your favorite camp song to lead, you might be a candidate for our full-time Program Director position. As a member of our playfully professional team, you will bring Wikipedia-like amounts of creativity to develop a wide variety of intentional outcome based programs including resident and family camps. You will also bring high levels of fastidious organization to supplies and resources while supporting amazing staff and volunteers. Because you cannot get enough glowing embers against a starry night sky, on-site housing is provided during camp sessions in Pinckney, MI with our administrative office located in Ann Arbor. North Star Reach will offer year-round programming with week-long resident camps in the summer months and weekend family camps and resident programs throughout the rest of the year. Beginning in 2016, North Star Reach will host three to four spring family camps, three weeks of summer camp and three to five fall family camps with growth anticipated annually.

Responsibilities* General Responsibilities

With the Camp Director, achieve annual Operating Goals, including Camp programming, expense and cash management goals, personnel management, and maintenance of physical properties and other Camp assets Support and supervise seasonal camp staff and volunteers Achieve, through participation of seasonal camp staff and volunteers, Camp Program goals, including overseeing the development and execution of all camper programs, specifically summer camp, weekend family retreats and special program events, as well as securing and training the appropriate staffing (both paid and volunteer) to implement these programs Apply, evaluate and update policies and procedures to meet ACA Standards and SeriousFun Children's Network Criteria along with any local, state and federal regulations so as to ensure the safety of all participants Key Result Areas Accomplish Mission

Serve as a professional member of the staff in the delivery of camp programs and activities Promote incorporation of camp outcomes with staff and volunteers in the implementation of their jobs Develop and coordinate year-round Camp program and activities

Develop themes, special events and activities Create new program activities to meet stated camper outcomes Plan for and purchase activity materials and supplies Interpret and apply policies to create and update training guides for seasonal and volunteer counselors Coordinate and publish session activity schedules Support the Camp seasonal staff and volunteers

Assist in recruitment and selection of new and returning seasonal staff and volunteers Support seasonal staff and volunteer welcoming, confirmation, orientation and recognition process Develop and execute comprehensive training program for seasonal staff and volunteers Ensure a financially responsible program

Share in development and monitoring of budgets to ensure financial soundness of the programs Support fundraising efforts of the organization Shared Responsibilities

Act as a spokesperson for North Star Reach, providing energy and enthusiasm for the mission Maintain interpersonal skills necessary to work with a highly motivated, passionate and committed staff, volunteer base, constituents and supporters

Required Qualifications* Bachelor's Degree Minimum 2 years full-time experience developing and leading camp programming Four years progressive leadership experience in residential camping Experience hiring, supervising and supporting staff and volunteers Membership in the American Camp Association

Desired Qualifications* Experience coordinating multi-faceted programs for children with serious health challenges and their families Desire and ability to live and work with children and adults in an outdoor environment Positive communication, supervision and support skills Ability to deal with conflict and challenge in a way to create positive results Willingness to accept guidance and supervision Good character, integrity, and ability to adapt to camp setting Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control Valid Michigan driver's license and acceptable driving record Acceptable state and federal criminal background check Physical strength to lift/move equipment and supplies (up to 40 pounds)

Work Locations Based at North Star Reach's office in Ann Arbor, MI and facility in Pinckney, MI.

Background Screening University of Michigan Health System conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
