Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) provides complex medical and brain injury rehab, chemical dependency treatment for adults and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for a Nurse Manager-Dual Diagnosis. The Nurse Manager provides Administrative and clinical responsibility for Nursing Services on the Chemical Dependency unit. Provide leadership, supervision and role modeling for nursing and direct care staff and oversee patient care activities.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating the program and the policies.

Oversees that the program standards are met as identified by licensing agencies, certification agencies like CMS, Joint Commission, etc.

Assures implementation of facility policies and assists staff in understanding and complying with legal and ethical considerations.

Assists and works closely with CNS to help with staffing coverage

Facilitates quality care and problem resolution.

Participates as a primary interdisciplinary treatment team member, serving as a liaison

between the nursing staff and other areas.

Conducts meetings regularly at minimum once a month

Assures that outcome data, patient satisfaction surveys, utilization management and

performance improvement information is shared with staff.

Documents the process to assess developmental needs of staff and to explore training

opportunities to meet needs.

Manages overtime and staff salary budget through oversight of staffing patterns, close coordination with the Scheduler, CNS, and the Director of Nursing.

Timely interviewing and hiring practices

Assumes role of Unit RN to provide direct patient care as needed.

Effectively controls costs through economical utilization of personnel, materials and equipment

Ensures and completes PI and EOC unit audits and disaster drills, and submitted on or before the 15th of the coming month.

Ensures that nursing process is incorporated in all nursing care, Master Treatment Plan and Nursing Care Plan

Ensures that the nursing staffs are compliant with the National Patient Safety Goals, Hand Hygiene, Lunch Breaks, Cell Phone policy, etc. and other regulatory standards.

Randomly audits the documentation of the nursing staff for completeness, timeliness and appropriateness of the nursing notes and assessments.

Job Requirements:

Skills, Knowledge and abilities

Thorough knowledge of rehabilitation, medical surgical, brain injury. Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects. Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Understanding of management principles and budgeting procedures. Able to evaluate other staff using the criteria in their job description.

Education and Training

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

BSN preferred

Licensure and/or Certification

Current State of Texas Registered Nurse License

Current CPR certification

RN,C CRRN preferred

Experience

Two years of inpatient chemical dependency rehabilitation or psychiatric experience preferred.

One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision. Experience in evaluating staff against the criteria in their job description preferred.

Physical/General

Able to sustain physical activity throughout scheduled shift

Able to remain on feet throughout scheduled shift

Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy

Able to lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance

Able to push patients in wheel chairs up and down hills and pursue running patients

Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilets, and vehicles

Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient

Verbal skills to communicate to deescalate a crisis situation

Writing skills to accurately convey patient behavior and status

Visual observation skills so as to convey verbally and in writing patient behavior or to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other accidents

Writing skills to include legibility and correct grammar to convey patient behavior and other information in the patient chart

Ability to assist in direct patient care from prompting through total care (i.e. bath, diapering)

Able to feed patients

Regular / required attendance

Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions

Emotional stability and ability to deal with changing priorities
