Under the direction of the Medical Director of Occupational Health, utilizes medical and administrative skills to provide support for the Expanded Drug Testing (EDT) program. Routine duties include urine specimen collection for the purpose of the EDT program. Reliable transportation required to travel to Cleveland Clinic locations throughout Northeast Ohio.
Maintains an excellent working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 40 DOT drug testing procedures and maintains DOT certification for specimen collections per regulations. Facilitates the collection of urine specimens from employees. Follows departmental policies to correctly identify the employee before any specimen is obtained. Properly labels and documents the specimens for processing. Communicates with, understands, and reacts effectively to a diverse employee population base. Communicates all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate Manager, Supervisor, or Group Leader. Follows Universal Precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens. Strictly adheres to HIPAA guidelines. Order processing and office supplies as needed. Will be required to travel to Cleveland Clinic locations throughout Northeast Ohio. Submits accurate time, travel, expense and collection logs in a timely manner. Helps with department--related clerical duties inventories and stocks supplies as needed. Performs other clerical and clinical duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Must be a graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Completion of a clinical externship. MA Certification preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required. Current AHA BLS Provider Card or must be obtained during New Hire Period. Valid Ohio Driver's (VDL) license and proof of automobile insurance with $100,000/$300,000 coverage.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of CC Externship preferred. One year of recent work experience as a Medical Assistant required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting. Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
