CLEVELAND CLINIC IS CURRENTLY SEEKING EXPERIENCED ACUTE CARE NURSE PRACTITIONERS FOR A NEWLY DESIGNED HOUSE OFFICER POSITION THROUGHOUT OUR REGIONAL HOSPITAL SYSTEMS.

AS A HOUSE OFFICER, THE NURSE PRACTITIONER WILL RESPOND TO PATIENT CARE CALLS THROUGHOUT THE REGIONAL HOSPITAL WHERE THEY WILL BE BASED. VARIOUS LOCATIONS ARE AVAILABLE. NURSE PRACTITIONER EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED, HOWEVER CANDIDATES WITH AT LEAST 3 YEARS OF CRITICAL CARE RN EXPEREINCE WILL BE CONSIDERED.

THE COVERAGE WILL BE FOR ALL SERVICES, AND DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

PATIENT EVALUATIONS RAPID RESPONSE/CODES URGENT PATIENT MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES (AIRWAY, CENTRAL LINES, A-LINES, CHEST TUBES AND OTHER PROCEDURES CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF PATIENTS AS REQUIRED CONTINUAL COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER PROVIDERS INVOLVED WITH THE ADMITTED PATIENTS CARE AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AS NEEDED THIS POSITION OFFERS A HIGHER RATE OF PAY DUE TO BEING FULL-TIME NIGHTS

ALL HIRES WILL GO THROUGH AN IN-DEPTH 3 MONTH PAID TRAINING BEFORE BEGINNING THEIR DUTIES AT EACH HOSPITAL. SCHEDULE WILL BE 13 SHIFTS PER MONTH

THE APPROPRIATE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE A QUEST FOR TRAILBLAZING, A DESIRE TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF A COMMUNITY HOSPITAL SYSTEM AND WORK WITH A GREAT DEAL OF AUTONOMY YET POSSESS CRITICAL COMMUICATIVE SKILLS WITH OTHER PROFESSIONALS. AS A HOUSE OFFICER, CAREGIVERS WILL LOOK TO YOU AS THE RESPONDER TO THEIR NEEDS FOR WHOLE HOSPITAL PATIENT CARE.

CARE DELIVERED FROM THE HOUSE OFFICER IS RAPID, SHORT TERM AND CONCISE TO ALEVIATE AN IMMEDIATE ISSUE WITH THE HOSPITALIZED PATIENT. HAND OFFS WILL OCCUR CONTINUALLY TO THE STAFF AND SERVICE OF WHICH THE PATIENT IS ADMITTED.

NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A HOSPITALIST ROLE, THE HOUSE OFFICER WILL OVER-SEE THE CARE OF ALL ADMITTED PATIENTS WITHIN THE REGIONAL HOSPITAL. ALL SERVICES CAN AND WILL CALL FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE HOUSE OFFICER.

Summary: With the collaboration of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) performs complete histories and physicals on patients within the age determined by their certification as it relates to education & clinical training; to establish and record patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care is in the areas identified above only. APN's are privileged by the Board of Governors. Base hours exceed other patient care areas and expectations for 24/7 hour coverage of advanced critical care services role provide advanced care to patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Advanced Critical care APN's practice in a setting that requires the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage acute and chronic health problems. APN's also practice in the settings requiring complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity medical/surgical interventions.

Responsbilities: Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan with direct review by a physician. Must be able to work with autonomy within Ohio law under direction of collaborating physician. Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board. Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury which may include assisting surgeons in conducting operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life-threatening situations, as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board. Performs specialized procedures, including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies and harvest, blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis and paracentesis as well as other specific procedures as directed by the physician, following approval by CCF Credentialing Board. Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations. Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards. Assists with record keeping, completes appropriate patient medical chart, transcribes lab data and routine correspondence, as directed and reviewed by physician. Refers patients to physicians as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment. Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multidisciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary. Performs research follow-up studies as directed by the supervision of a physician. Assists in data analysis. Participates in quality monitoring thru the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care. Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management. May serve as clinical preceptor for APN students and other health professionals. Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Demonstrates compassion and professionalism and a commitment to excellent patient care. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited APN program. Master's degree in Nursing and/or applicable state license through the Ohio Board of Nursing for certificate to practice. Must have Prescriptive authority or immediately eligible to apply for licensure to prescribe from the Ohio Board of Nursing.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Licensed as Registered Nurse (RN) in applicable state, national certification as Nurse Practitioner (APN) by nationally accredited organization, current certificate of authority by applicable state Board of Nursing, certificate to prescribe (CTP) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required based upon work setting. COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Management of critically ill patients. Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan development and invasive procedures as per clinical privileges.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Depending on practice, surgical fields require minimum 2 years surgical experience, Critical care experience is desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Typical physical demands include ability to lift and position patients ranging in weight from 50 to 350 pounds. Ability to push/pull patients to various positions, to move/push medical equipment and supplies. Requires extensive walking, sitting and stair climbing. Ability to obtain safety precautions against blood borne pathogens by using protective gear.
