Description of Position
Utilizes CADD software to create construction grade detailed design drawings related to electro-mechanical systems of electrical substations. Designer (I) is an entry level position. Applicants must be comfortable functioning independently, as well as in a team environment. On a daily basis, a designer (I) will spend the majority of the day drafting and utilizing design skills to create project drawings. Designer (I) work directly under the supervision of a Designer (II) or Designer (III), and are sometimes asked to travel to jobsites to collect data necessary to complete their design drawing packages, or to assist in the preparation of a bid package.
Applicants should be highly organized and detail oriented. Applicants must be comfortable taking direction from engineers and more experienced designers. Applicants must have a positive attitude, and be eager to learn through experience and training. Applicants should also possess good spatial relations and 3D visualization skills.

Education
- Minimum of a high school diploma and 2+ years of relevant work experience or a 2 year degree in design, engineering, or engineering technology (or related field).
Desired Qualifications:
- Expertise in drafting techniques including orthographic projections.
- Expertise in the use of AutoCAD and / or MicroStation
- An aptitude to learn how to determine substation phase spacing and electrical clearance requirements for live conductors, switch components and bus supports.
- 3D Drafting experience is preferred.
- Ability to develop construction drawings (Layouts, Elevations, Details, Grounding Plan and Details, Trench and Conduit Plan and Details) based on direction provided by engineers and more experienced designers.
- Ability to stay focused on a task, and follow it through to completion within a reasonable amount of time.
- Ability to interact with other departments to obtain information needed to complete project.
- Ability and willingness to provide input for continuous process improvement.
- An aptitude to learn the basics of the NEC, NESC, Design Guide for Rural Substations, Vendor Materials (Switches, Insulators, Connectors, etc.), and other technical materials.
