Full-Time. Located on Maui.

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The purpose of this position is to perform tasks of high complexity relating to the installation and troubleshooting of transmission and reception equipment for video, telephony and high-speed online in the hubs and other signal origination facilities. This position will be responsible for various IT-related functions as well.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Maui Manager, Outside Plant Engineering and Construction.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Collects and interprets engineering documentation, which includes schematics, fiber management systems and performance analysis reports.
Perform on going quality control checks and other established preventative maintenance activities on forward and return paths in the headend and hub sites.
Installs new equipment, modifies and reconfigures existing equipment as necessary. Coordinates new or existing site construction projects. Must communicate extensively and effectively with vendors and equipment support personnel.
Installs all wiring related to hub operations including all types of antennas, various transmission lines, waveguide and all electrical grounds, preamplifiers, external demodulators, ad insertion equipment and earth station feed assemblies and amplifiers. Works extensively with fiber optic transmission and transport equipment.
Maintains site buildings in good physical/mechanical order as well as ensuring cleanliness and safety.
Coordinate inventory, repair and calibration records on equipment and parts. Conduct the FCC Proof of Performance testing and documentation. Maintain fiber optics transmission equipment at headend and remote hub sites. Assist service and maintenance technicians as needed. Assists in the implementation and activation of electronics and hardware to support advanced services.
Provide feedback to designers regarding as-built changes by red-lining CAD drawings.
Maintains and updates system documentation and drawings using applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, Visio, Access and CAD.Regular attendance required.


OTHER DUTIES
:


Assists in on the job training of other technicians and/or employees.
Must have ability and be willing to work early shifts on demand.
Participates in on-call rotations.
Performs other duties as assigned.


HUMAN RELATIONS:
Works with various employees and other departments. Will interface with local communications personnel, vendors, contractors, customers and corporate.


QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent field preferred. Minimum of 3-years CATV field and headend/studio experience or equivalent. Previous work experience in an area of fiber optic test or telecommunications required. Experience in telecommunications fields may satisfy certain requirements in lieu of cable related experience. Stable employment history.


SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES
: Possess thorough knowledge of fiber optic and cable television electronic equipment, headend/fiber optic and broadband concepts, RF and analog/digital video equipment, line equipment, converters and earth station antennas, trunk and feeder equipment, passive devices, studio equipment, and building communications equipment. Ability to demonstrate familiarity with various headend test equipment including fiber optic, DWDM, MPEG, AC-3 and Multicast Video test equipment. Must possess strong mathematical skills, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, personal computer skills (Word, Excel, Visio, Access, CAD), and have ability to learn new technologies as needed to support future systems. Must be analytical, able to exercise good judgment, field safety and apply logical reasoning in seeking solutions to problems. Ability to establish facts, draw conclusions and interpret technical instructions. Must have a valid Hawaii driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
:
Company vehicle, personal computer, various tools and equipment including but not limited to: Optical power meter, optical and standard TDR, DWDM analyzer, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, MPEG and AC-3 analyzer, BER testers, waveform monitor, vectorscope, signal analysis meter, DVM, VOM, sweep gear, bench sweep alignment equipment, locating equipment, signal generator, leakage detection equipment, all common hand tools, ladders, shovels, various cable television electronic equipment, head-end equipment, numerous test meters and two-way radio.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: May work in a climate controlled interior office and also may work outdoors and be subject to various weather and air quality conditions. Must be able to work on rooftops and not have a fear of heights. Ability to work on 24-hour standby duty, rotational basis, or modified shift. Must be physically fit, lift and carry up to 75 pounds, digging, crawling, stooping and standing for long periods of time. Climbing on ladders, utility poles and/or towers. May drive for long periods of time.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Additional coverage as needed.
