The SMA primary care medical director is responsible for the quality, cost and service levels of health care provided by the primary care SMA practice operations in NV.  In so doing, this position has direct responsibility for the supervision, direction, management and evaluation of the NV SMA primary care practice operations and for planning, implementation and monitoring of activities in direct support of quality improvement, utilization, and quality management, which support, to an optimal level, the provision of exemplary medical service to all primary care patients in SMA, from an outpatient and inpatient perspective.   
Primary Responsibilities:


Provides leadership and communication for all SMA primary care physician leaders, physicians and clinical staff

Responsible for effective interviewing, selection, orientation, development, and retention of primary care providers and staff

Partners with medical management staff, to result in clinical process improvement activity and access enhancement

Ensures effective quality assurance and risk management processes

Ensures customer satisfaction and compliance with regulatory standards

Ensures cost effective delivery of health care within the SMA primary care practice management operations

Ensures that all NCQA and other accreditation standards are met

Ensures ongoing professional medical management development programs

Establish direct partnerships with key SMA and NV business departments
 

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

M.D. Board Certified in a postgraduate clinical specialty, current license to practice without restriction by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners
Additional training in medical management, quality assurance and risk management
Primary Care group practice and HMO and multi-payer industry
Managed healthcare systems, medical quality assurance, quality improvement, medical utilization management and risk management
Basic knowledge of management practices, human relations, consensus building and collaborative ability
Must have strong oral and written communication techniques
Must be professionally respected by peers
Minimum 10 years in a primary care medical group practice
5 years management experience and prior executive oversight experience in a clinical setting
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in utilization management, quality assurance, quality improvement techniques, risk management and a prepaid environment
