Description:
Teach swimming lessons to youth ages 3 - 12 by following the American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" program (includes ARC levels Pre-K 1 - 3 (2.5 - 5 years) and Learn to Swim levels 1 -- 6 (5 - 16 years)). Class sizes will vary from 3 to 12 students per instructor. Class length is 30-minutes with 15-minutes between classes. Instructors are required to teach from "in the water" for all Pre-K classes and Learn to Swim levels 1 - 2. Instructors may teach from the pool deck for Learn to Swim levels 3-6. Some lifeguarding responsibilities during class are also required.

Responsibilities:
Primary guard responsibilities include; Supervise pool deck area and lifeguard 25 yard x 40 yard college swimming pool; Monitor safety of pool area and patrons; Enforce pool usage and facility policies during open swim and during reserved usage time; Manage/Supervise large group events in the pool area; and secure facility during non-usage time. Secondary guard responsibilities include; Open/close pool and pool deck as needed; and clean pool deck area and guarding/class equipment/supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Instructor/Guard Qualifications:
*Current Lifeguard certification required (from an accredited institution such as the American Red Cross). *Your Lifeguard certification must also include a certification in CPR/First Aid/AED for the professional rescuer.
*Current WSI certification (or the equivalent of at least 1 year experience teaching swim lessons to youth)
*Must be able to lift at least 25lbs without assistance
Proactive as well as reactive lifeguarding skills
*Knowledge of emergency procedures for swimming pools
*Ability to communicate, instruct, and supervise children in the lesson program and all patrons in the surrounding pool area
*Ability to make prudent decisions, work effectively with fellow staff members and evaluate as well as correct safety issues that may affect the health/safety of the patrons
*Friendly, outgoing, team player, caring, responsible, reliable and able to work without direct supervision

Hours:
*Ability to commit to the entire duration of the summer schedule (6/20/16 -- 8/14/16)
*Ability to commit to training/orientation on varied days between June -13 -- 17, 2016 between the hours of 9am-5pm (hours will vary on each training day, totaling 8 to 16 hours of overall orientation/training
