The Instructional Design Manager is a leader of people who design and manage learning programs. This leader develops people and enables processes to produce effective learning solutions. The Design Manager is a coach, a facilitator, a results catalyst and sees the big picture, seeing upstream and downstream effects of the work produced by his/her team. This leader is a partner and collaborator with delivery team Managers, planning team Managers, information technology team Managers, business support area Managers and more. This leader challenges the team promoting innovation, creativity and productivity.

The Instructional Design Manager embraces this exciting opportunity to lead change to the way in which we promote learning. He/she will help define new standards and strategies to promote learning using current technologies to increase a self-paced environment. The Design Manager will consult with learning and business partners on the design, development, execution and measurement of learning programs to support our internal operations business partners. The Instructional Design Manager is responsible for designing interactive instructor-led and online learning programs while ensuring high-quality, innovative and effective learning programs. The Design Manager keeps abreast of various design strategies, with emphasis in Online Learning, both synchronous and asynchronous.

Primary Responsibilities:
Establish Learning Strategies and Approaches
Demonstrates knowledge of the business environment and business needs
Collaborates with internal / external business partners using a consultative approach to identify business goals and performance gaps
 Analyzes identified performance gaps and recommends training and non-training solutions.
 Translates business need into learning development needs.
 Identifies / selects appropriate learning theories/methodologies and communicates to stakeholders to gain adoption
 Leverages all available learning design approaches providing a learner-friendly environmentÂ
Identify and Communicate Learning Best Practices and Trends
Identifies current and emerging trends in learning and learning technology
Contributes ideas to influence the adoption of technology solutions that enhance learning outcomes
Drives adoption of learning best practices and trends
Leverages appropriate resources to drive design and development of learning solutions
Maintains knowledge of current and planned technology in the business
Maintains awareness of various learning delivery modes and the appropriateness of their application
Drive Implementation of Learning Solutions
Ensures compliance with established learning processes / procedures and internal standards (SCORM, AICC, learning measurement)
Ensures use of appropriate learning techniques / technologies to optimize learning impact
Drives marketing and communication of available learning solutions to increase participation
Maintains knowledge of current and emerging technology that supports learning development and delivery
Recommends enhancements to current learning processes and systems
Manages learning development requests and communicates progress to stakeholders
Manage Internal and External Learning Staff and Resources
Identifies and procures necessary learning staff and other resources (e.g. equipment, software) to ensure the efficient operation of the team
Provides input into the development / management of training budgets and forecasts
Conducts learning needs assessments to identify staff knowledge deficits
Supervises professional employees (Instructional Designers, Learning Technologists, Project Managers) and provides coaching and counseling
Evaluates the performance of direct reports (internal and external)
Evaluates effectiveness of learning material and provides feedback, recommendations and action plans
Monitors / analyzes learning metrics / trends and communicates areas needing attention to applicable stakeholders (e.g. instructors, designers, leaders)
Performs all other related duties as assigned

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or similar area (Eight additional years of comparable work experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree)
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design, instructional development or instructional technology including three or more years of manager level and / or above experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills - including ability to present information clearly and comfortably to large groups
Possesses the following attributes
Critical thinker and confident, sound decision maker
Creative problem solver
Ability to effectively manage productivity and quality of direct reports
Must be available to work weekends and irregular hours to meet project deadlines and critical high work volume situations
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or similar area
Three or more years’ experience in a health care environment
Three or more years of hands on experience with adult education and training
