Position: EDUCATION DIRECTOR

Full Time Position


Function of Position:

The Education Director is responsible for the general operations and administration of school programs and services comprising of the educational, vocational and behavioral management components. In addition, this position is responsible for the assessment and maintenance of certification requirements for the educational program, and for all teaching faculty with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Line of Authority:

This position reports to the School Director.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties Include:

1. Responsible for general operations and administration of school programs and services comprising educational, vocational and behavioral management components;

2. Serves as a member of the Administrative Management Team;

3. Responsible for assessment and maintenance of certification requirements for educational program and for all teaching faculty with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE);

4. Monitors the coordination and scheduling of annual reviews and IEP meetings with the Local Education Agencies (LEAs);

5. Chairs or assigns a Designee, in conjunction with the LEA representative, all IEP meetings;

6. Instructs and guides the faculty in the development and implementation of student Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives;

7. Designs and implements training programs for faculty;

8. Responsibility for the direct supervision of the Academic Coordinator, Education Specialist, IEP Coordinator and Teachers;

9. Conducts evaluations of the Academic and Vocational staff at least twice annually;

10. Assists with the admission of new students;

11. Assists and supports all staff in the use of the Behavior Management Program (BMP);

12. Assists all staff in order to ensure consistent utilization of the Behavior Management Program (BMP) to promote consistent classroom functioning;

13. Conducts faculty meetings with academic, vocational and behavior management staff as necessary;

14. Conducts administrative meetings in the absence of the Director;

15. Participates in crisis intervention, group therapy and other school related activities;

16. Coordinates school-related field (out of building) trips;

17. Acts as educational consultant to the LEA, school and/or agency staff regarding any facet of the student’s program;

18. Serves as educational consultant to treatment teams regarding a student’s program needs;

19. Represents the school and FAS at relevant meetings and conferences;

20. Adheres to all MENTOR, Family Advocacy Services, LLC (FAS) and school policies and procedures;

21. Coordinates the administering of educational assessments for students within the school and/or agency;

22. Establishes and maintains supportive working relationships both within the agency and school and the broader community network;

23. Provides appropriate representation of FAS and school and its services within the community;

24. Actively participates in all staff meetings and training opportunities provided by the school and/or FAS;

25. Performs other related duties and activities as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Possesses strong leadership skills;

2. Knowledge of the program’s philosophy and techniques of treatment;

3. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff workers and the general public;

4. Excellent interpersonal skills;

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills;

6. Conflict resolution;

7. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation;

8. Ability to use a technology to adequately carry out duties and responsibilities. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education (certification), Three to Five (3-5) years experience in supervision or administration of educational programs, and at least three (3) years of special education classroom experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Maryland Professional Certificate in Special Education Supervisor or Special Education Principal (secondary level) or valid Maryland Professional Teaching Certificate

Class DMarylandDrivers License.
