Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) is a multi-specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 300 providers, 21 medical health centers including six urgent care clinics, four convenient care centers, two lifestyle centers catering to older adults, an outpatient surgery center, plus E-visits and online options via Now Clinic telemedicine technology.  SMA offers patients compassion, innovation, and quality care throughout southern Nevada. SMA is headquartered in the greater Las Vegas, NV area. Southwest Medical Associates is part of the Optum division under the greater UnitedHealth Group umbrella.
 
This Medical Assistant will support the Pre-visit Team in Smart Choice Medicaid outreach and collecting all the pre-visit / HEDIS / STAR information. In addition, this Medical Assistant will be responsible for completing documentation and conducting multiple preventive screening tests (i.e. EKGs, ABIs, DPNs, spirometry, bone-mineral density, multiple risk factor screenings, place lab orders, update medications, etc.) in the Urgent Care Centers for all product lines. There is potential for future vaccine administration.
 
This Pre-visit Medical Assistant needs to provide excellent customer service and help identify opportunities with patients that allow us to adhere to, and improve our quality measures/star measures for patient care.
This Pre-visit Medical Assistant must be able to mulit-task, work both independently and as part of a team. Resourcefulness and punctuality is crucial. 
***Hours range Monday through Sunday from 7:00am - 10:00pm (flexible).***
***Must be able to float between locations.***
 
Primary Responsibilities: 

Compliance with customer services standards, scheduling and entering appointments, and demographics in IDX
Assists with phone calls and messages.  Documents all calls and actions taken
Responsible for collection and documentation of patient information to include vital signs, chief complaint, review of medications, allergies, health risk screen information and other services
Ability to direct patients to the team member that would resolve issues prior to and after the Urgent Care appointment.
Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate care, assists the Pre-visit team and clinical team  with the coordination and completion of patient care plan
Responsible for compliance requirements such as laboratory QC management and other requirements dictated by Pre-visit team and clinic needs
Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to, assisting coworkers and floating to other areas
Follow standard protocols, processes and policies to include but not limited to the following:  Medication Refill, Preventative Services, Managing Conditions, and Disease Case Management as signed by department head or designee

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant school
2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant
CPR certified or ability to complete within 30 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications:

Medical Assistant certification
Urgent care / Emergency room experience
Moderate to heavy phone and computer usage
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Ability to perform complex Medical Assistant tasks including tests and treatments within the clinical scope
Ability to coordinate the consensus needed to achieve the medical plan for the patient
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of or ability to learn and apply job functions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent phone etiquette and call outreach skills, and overall customer service skills
Computer skills, including window based applications as well as EMR / EHR experience, and excellent organization skills  
Bilingual in Spanish
