Senior Product Manager-SWEATERS

JOB SUMMARY

Manages the Product, Technical and Design Team with the ultimate objective of successfully executing programs or categories from the initial merchant void/vision to the timely shipment or quality trend right product. Executes programs utilizing cross department efficiencies. Manages the daily activities within the Product Development department, ensuring standards for quality and design guidelines and design guidelines for assigned private label apparel or home product categories. Collaborates with Sourcing team to ensure the execution of cost effective product. Maintains communication and relationships with Sr. Management, Merchandise Managers, Buyers, Peers, Staff, Agents and Vendors. Provides guidance on policies and procedures, best practices and conflict resolution. Communicates a compelling vision. Inspires, develops and coaches direct reports. Travels as necessary domestically and overseas to understand fashion trends, color and global climate. Consistently shops all levels of stores including our own for fashion/trends/color direction and value.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages the overall operations within the Children’s Sweater Development Department to ensure that department and company standards are met. Manages workload of the department to ensure that the established time and action calendars are adhered to. Anticipates trends and direction of the business. Drives process to ensure delivery of quality product on time. Thinks strategically and anticipates issues and creates solutions to problems.
  • Develops strong working relationships with Agents, Vendors and Merchants. Ensures styling details are clearly communicated and understood by Agents/Vendors. Ensures all production problems are addressed and resolved and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Initiates the development process according to merchandising strategies and the time and action calendar. Collaborates with Merchants and all areas of Product Development.
  • Works closely with Manager of, Sourcing and/or Production Manager to develop best strategy for placement of programs to maximize success and minimize risk.
  • Manages entire production process including, delivery and production flow. Monitors WIP reports with Product Development team. Agents and Vendors to ensure on time delivery for all programs.
  • Manages Team by providing clear roles and responsibilities for staff. Sets clear and measurable goals for all Team members and gives regular and consistent feedback. Flexes leadership style based on individual needs of associates.
  • Travels domestically and internationally to communicate company and program vision to agents and vendors, find new markets, monitor production and to support Product Development process.
  • Ensures that the entire team regularly evaluates vendor performance together giving feedback to the discussing vendor issues and making recommendations
  • Leads and develops team of up to 4 employees.
  • Builds efficient and executable programs
  • Directs and approves all stages of product development for quality and construction
  • Collaborates with Product Development management on all personnel decisions in the department including hires, terminations, promotions, training and associate relations issues
  • Resolves issues as they arise in a timely manner
  • Makes procedural changes
  • Ability to prioritize work load
  • Recommends methods to improve the garment/product construction and quality
  • Recommends new techniques, fabrics, finishes to Merchants that ensure that TJX private label
  • product is always the most current market trends
  • Regularly evaluates vendor base by country
  • Awareness of all testing protocols and works with team to ensure compliance
  • Develops and implements methods to approve efficiencies and ensures best practices
  • Establishes parameters of acceptable tolerances
  • Defines appropriate creative direction


MININIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Degree in Fashion/Product Design and/or Merchandising or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ plus years experience in Product Development, Sweaters and Kids is a HUGE PLUS for consideration!
  • Experience traveling overseas and domestically
  • Former apparel design experience is also a big plus.
  • 3+ plus years supervisory, managerial experience.
  • Working knowledge of safety compliance in kids merchandise is advantageous.
  • Broad-based knowledge of Product Development including, product specifications, garment and/or home product construction, fabric/yarn construction, sizing, etc.
