The Community Liaison / Job Developer assures that the Friendship Home mission to, "enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by providing quality respite care and support services in a safe and caring environment", is carried out by offering supports that help people build the necessary skills to find, and retain community employment.
Summary: The Community Liaison / Job Developer works with BTW participants to explore and discover employment opportunities they would like to pursue. The Community Liaison / Job Developer seeks job opportunities within the community to build partnerships and provide information about BTW participants.
Essential Job Function
The Community Liaison / Job Developer:
- Provides knowledge to potential employers about the benefits of hiring people who have developmental disabilities.
- Visits businesses to determine potential employment partnerships with Friendship Home.
- Networks within the community to gain knowledge of potential job opportunities.
- Works with the participants individually and the BTW team to determine job interest and work related goals of the person.
- Assists the individual and Case Management team with the job search, application process, and interview
- Assists with arranging and attending interviews.
- Work with the individual, family, and the BTW team to determine what supports are necessary for the person to work successfully in a job of his or her choice.
- May assist the person in how government benefits that he or she may receive may be affected by employment.
- Communicates with families and BTW team to create a cohesive support team for the individual receiving services.
- Assures that the human rights of the individual with disabilities are honored and that families are aware of opportunities to promote self-sufficiency, achieve new skills and enhance opportunities.
- Transports clients to interviews when needed.
- Works with Case Managers to assure that both the employee and employer are satisfied with the employment experience.
- Communicates with families regarding schedule and progress.
Clinical/Programmatic
The Community Liaison / Job Developer
- Treats all clients, families, and collaterals in an open and respectful manner.
- Maintains an atmosphere that promotes cultural competence and celebrates diversity.
- Addresses crisis in a calm, effective and supportive manner.
- Informs the supervisor of incidents and situations following protocol and utilizing appropriate judgment.
- Functions consistent with agency mission and service philosophy and all Friendship Home policies including confidentiality and client rights and responsibility.
- Participates in ISP meetings as needed to review and update goals/objectives and services regarding employment.
Administrative
The Community Liaison / Job Developer
- Assures coverage for themselves as needed if they are unable to be at work.
- Works collaboratively with the Case Managers, Direct Support Staff, and Program Director to assist the team in helping individuals reach their goals.
- Participates as a strong team player with Friendship Home colleagues through active participation in weekly staff meeting and demonstration of flexibility and collaboration.
- Maintains a positive program presence in the community through communication with job sites and participation in promotional events as needed.
- Reports to work consistently and on time, giving adequate notice and requested documentation to the Program Director for time works and absences.
- Completes projects as assigned in a timely manner.
Professional Development
The Community Liaison / Job Developer
- Actively participates in weekly staff meetings and team discussions aimed at strengthening service delivery and positive communication among staff members as well as on-going learning for all team members.
- Participates in all required training - taking initiative to build expertise
- Demonstrates willingness for ongoing learning and appreciation of new ideas by continually bringing new resources and information into the program.
Essential Skills & Experience
The Community Liaison / Job Developer has a demonstrated ability to serve and care for people with disabilities and their families. He/she has a minimum of associates degree or equivalent direct service experience. In addition, he/she has the following skills and experience:
- Open and positive attitude with the ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexibility with attitude and schedule
- Ability to build partnerships and coalitions that result in increased support and opportunities for participants
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Excellent computer skills including email and web proficiency
- Valid driver's license, with a positive driving record, adequate insurance, and ability to travel to meetings with own vehicle as needed.
- Ability to be accessible by telephone and email
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Ability to lift at least 20 lbs
- Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, and move about without restriction
- Ability to drive for up to 3 hours
