POSITION PURPOSE -
Performs the necessary leadership, facilitation, analysis and design tasks related to the development of an enterprise network security architecture.

Scope of Activities:

  • Understand, advocate and augment the principles of business and IT — and more specifically network security architecture — strategies.
  • Design and lead the network security architecture domain by aligning business requirements and IT strategies, detecting critical deficiencies, and recommending solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Document, recommend and review network security architecture projects (for example, business requirements, architectural design and build/operate artifacts).
  • Oversee and facilitate the evaluation, selection and design of network security technology complying with standards.
  • Work with information security leadership and cross-functional teams to develop strategies and plans to enforce security requirements and address identified risks.
  • Involved in planning the delivery of solutions; answering technical and procedural questions for less experienced team members; teaching improved processes; mentoring team members.
  • Provides second- and third-level support and analysis during and after security incidents.
  • Research and assess new threats and security alerts and recommend remedial actions.

 The Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and lifecycle management of technology architectures and application architectures that support one or more application systems. The Architect is responsible for identifying and implementing technology and application solution designs and delivering sustainable, cost-effective business applications based on industry and business research. This position is also responsible for implementation and oversight of sustaining technology governance processes and associated teaching and mentoring of Business and IT Associates in proper use of the technology and application base.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Lead design, development, and deployment of technical and application solutions to meet business requirements that are cost effective and sustainable. Deliver conceptual, logical, and physical solution specifications.
  • Translate business requirements using complex methods and models to determine appropriate system solutions.
  • Provide input into annual budget planning for technology migrations and project cost estimation.
  • Research, identify, test, certify, and select technology products required for solution delivery.
  • Establish and implement technology migration strategies for a specific application or architecture within an IT portfolio.
  • Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed. NATURE AND SCOPE -
  • Typically reports to Senior Architect, Senior Manager, or Director
  • No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action). ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
    Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must pass the Drug Test. Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 9

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.
  • Seven to 10 years of experience in local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Wireless networks, virtual private networks (VPNs), routers, firewalls, load balancers and related security and network devices including architecture, design, monitoring and management tools, and operations.
  • Exposure to physical, virtual and cloud network security technologies to provide impact in a hybrid environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
  • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.

  • Ability to understand the long-term ('big picture') and short-term perspectives of situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Expert technical proficiency in one or more of the following: Retail applications, Windows platform, UNIX platforms, MVS COBOL, JAVA, J2EE, Relational Databases, Websphere Application Server, Websphere Commerce, Websphere MQ, Networking (Voice, LAN, WAN), SAP, Siebel, Peoplesoft. Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Strong oral and written communications skills.
