About this job

Major Purpose:

The primary responsibility of a host is to create an experience that encourages the guest to return to First Watch or The Egg & I Restaurants. Provide friendly, responsive service and assist in providing an exceptional dining experience for all our guests and make friends daily. Each host’s primary objective is to demonstrate excellence in guest service.

Major Responsibilities:

• Welcome and greet guests. Make all our guests feel comfortable and let them know you’re there to personally take care of them
• As often as possible, open the front door for guests entering or leaving the cafe restaurant
• When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in party
• Call out name and number of party when tables become available
• Run the waitlist for guests and provide guests with estimated waiting time
• Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible
• Seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations
• Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their server’s name
• Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness
• Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return
• Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by service station assignment
• Maintain clean service areas
• Be ready and willing to assist servers as situations arise
• Be ready and willing to assist bus person with clearing and resetting tables
• Interact with waiting guests, and while seating guests
• Maintain the cleanliness of the guests’ waiting area
• Seat guests evenly throughout the cafe restaurant except in the event of customer request
• Bring menus, silverware, boosters, chairs, etc. to the table, while seating guests
• Answer the telephone in a prompt and curious manner
• Take “to go” orders
• Operate the POS/cash register
• Make a conscious effort to foresee any special items a guest may require; assists with accommodation of special guest needs
• Perform end-of-the-day duties
• If qualified to do so, fills in as a Manager Supervisor in FOH on a temporary basis, performing management duties typically handled by a Manager, including supervision of other FOH employees
• Accurately reports tip income on a daily basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements:

• No previous restaurant experience is required
• Have working knowledge of the predominant language(s) of our guests
• Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance
• Honesty and Integrity
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, management and coworkers
• Basic math skills –the ability to make change
• Basic reading and writing skills
• Multi-task oriented – ability to perform multiple job functions at one time
• Follow workplace safety procedures
• Must read and complete all training materials and courses

Additional Requirements:

• Walk and stand throughout the entire shift
• Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop, and wipe
• Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently wash hands
• Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures
• Must report to work in a neat, clean uniform and present a well-groomed, hygienic appearance
• First Watch will supply employee with non-slip shoes, to be maintained by employee.  If the shoes become unusually soiled or damaged, employee must notify management for replacement.  First Watch will replace safety shoes as needed due to normal wear and tear
• The Egg & I employees must source, obtain and wear  black non – slip shoes; a specific brand is not required

Work Relationships:

The Host works with all levels of management and staff within the restaurant.  Additionally, positive professional contact with customers is required to provide an exceptional quest experience.
