PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The purpose of this position is to install and perform routine troubleshooting of cable television, and/or high speed internet service, and/or digital phone service for the Kauai System.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports directly to the Installation Foreman and to the Technical Operations Manager.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Connects and disconnects cable, pay television services, and/or broadband services and/or digital phone services as well as performs upgrades, downgrades, pre-wiring and multiple dwelling installations.
  • Applies basic knowledge of electronics, installation techniques and repairs.
  • Applies working knowledge and demonstrates proficiency in the use of various tools and equipment.
  • Utilizes equipment and tools. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, ladders, drills, shovels, and various test meters.
  1. Troubleshoots, maintains, services, and resolves the problems back to the line tap.
  • Able to solve technical problems with customers and technicians by using effective verbal communications.
  • Applies working knowledge and demonstrates proficiency in the use of various tools and equipment.
  • Utilizes equipment and tools. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, ladders, drills, shovels, and various test meters.
  1. CLI testing and completes repairs, checks amplifier levels for signal quality and handles routine plant maintenance.
  • Applies working knowledge of OSH, FCC, and TWC regulations and specifications.
  • Applies working knowledge and demonstrate proficiency in the use of various tools and equipment.
  • Utilizes equipment and tools. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, ladders, drills, shovels, and various test meters.

  1. Maintains and stocks necessary materials and tools for the company vehicle.
  • Able to organize materials, tools and equipment.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  1. Recognize and comply with all safety policies of the company and federal/state regulations.
  • Able to operate all equipment in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Able to work in constricted spaces and positions involving crouching, squatting and/or kneeling.
  • Agility to climb up and down ladders and/or gaff poles.
  1. Regular attendance is required.

OTHER DUTIES:
  1. May train and advise entry-level installers on more difficult technical problems and checks completed work.
  • Utilizes clear and concise verbal communication when training/advising.
  1. May sell additional services and/or products to subscribers.
  • Utilizes verbal, written and interpersonal communication to sell services and products.
  • Utilizes working knowledge of cable products, programming choices and prices.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

HUMAN RELATIONS: Has extensive contact with technical and office personnel, customers, and the general public. Has no supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous installation, electronic, or course work and customer service experience is preferred. Stable employment history.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES: Demonstrates proficiency in the use of various tools and equipment and other various tools and equipment. Must have good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; good mechanical aptitude. Thorough knowledge of electronics, installation techniques, use of various tools and equipment and familiarity of OSHA, FCC and ATC regulations and specifications. Working knowledge of cable products, programming choices, regulations and specifications. A valid driver license and acceptable driving record required.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Company vehicle (with valid driver’s license), various size tools (these include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, shovels, ladders, test meters, etc.) and may operate company bucket truck.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifts and carries up to 75 pounds, digs, crawls, stoops, stands and climbs on ladders, telephone poles, and towers. Works outside throughout the year. Works in various weather and conditions which could be extreme hot or cold conditions. May drive for long periods of time.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 7:30am - 4:00pm. Additional coverage as needed.
