This is the base job description for a Legal Analyst in the Burlington Legal Department. Each Legal Analyst works in the practice area suited for his or her expertise (e.g., Compliance, Corporate, Labor & Employment, Litigation or Real Estate) and will have major duties and responsibilities specific to his or her practice area.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Within his or her practice area, the Legal Analyst (Litigation) has the following major duties:

• Monitor and Maintain Litigation Docket and Calendar
Monitor all filings served on the Company, route filings to appropriate personnel, and calendar response dates. Docket and calendar all deadlines for all litigation matters, draft litigation holds as appropriate, and advise in-house counsel of impending deadlines.

• Conduct and Manage Discovery and Electronic Discovery
Conduct interviews and investigate issues, where appropriate. Provide for document production and responses and ensure that the information is provided in an accurate and timely manner consistent with the regulatory and legal framework in the state in question. Conduct the numbering, redaction, duplication and indexing of documents. Work with outside vendors to establish, maintain, search, and code electronic productions. Under the guidance of an attorney, categorize documents by subject matter, prepare a chronology of facts and create production charts. Create and maintain discovery files.

• Preparation of Court Filings
Compile and organize affidavits, declarations, exhibits, and any other necessary documents for filings, bluebook and proofread all motions, confirm filings comply with relevant rules, create document indices in the preparation of motion filing. Create and maintain pleading files.

• Prepare for and attend depositions
Under attorney supervision, gather and prepare relevant documents, organize exhibits, take notes and handle exhibits during the deposition and digest transcripts to summarize highlights of a proceeding. Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation. Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.

• Prepare for and attend trials/arbitrations
Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial set-up and logistics, assist attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handling exhibits, and marking documents referred to by counsel, assist in the preparation of witness testimony and serve as liaison between trial attorneys and in-house counsel as necessary.

• Research
Legal research and analysis, interact with senior level management and others to gather facts, present findings, and make recommendations on necessary next steps.

• Other Responsibilities
Work with outside legal counsel to manage correspondence expectations; participate in, and often manage special projects; assist counsel with other matters as assigned.




Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience in a large firm or an in-house counsel team.
• Trial/arbitration support experience.
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Strong analytical writing skills and attention to detail
• Exceptional organization skills, ability to multitask and prioritize work activity based on need, attention to detail, initiative and follow-through skills
• Proactive mindset with strong deadline orientation
• Ability to learn difficult concepts quickly while creating and implementing creative solutions
• Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, document management systems, litigation and discovery databases (i.e. CaseMap and Summation), trial databases (i.e. Trial Director and similar), and e-billing
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Ability to multi-task effectively

Education:
At a minimum, a Paralegal Certificate and/or an Associate’s Degree is required. A college degree is preferred.
