Purpose Statement

Responsible for the achievement of the grooming salon's budgeted sales goals, gross margin to budget, labor percentage to budget, promoter metrics, supply costs, staffing and overseeing the daily operations of the salon.

Provide grooming services to guests that align with our brand promise, on-the-job training and coaching for Pet Stylists, Pet Stylist Apprentices, Grooming Salon Apprentices and Grooming Assistants. Ensure the safety of both salon partners and pets. This job is composed of a variety of different tasks that may be covered by operational guidelines, policies and procedures.

Individual judgment may be required in order to complete assigned tasks. Position is responsible for the welfare of all live animals within the department. Grooming Salon Leader will report to the Guest Experience Leader and collaborate to drive the business.

Key Accountabilities

The incumbent must be able to consistently perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Core Job Description:

1. Professionally manage and perform grooming services including brushing, bathing, ear and teeth cleaning, expression of anal glands, & trimming nails. Follow owner's instructions and/or Breed Profiles/Standards when clipping or trimming an animal's coat. Ensure the safety and well-being of animals.

2. Provide courteous service to all guests by utilizing the GUEST+ model in the salon.

3. Exhibit high level Interest in animal welfare.

4. Move animals and merchandise up to 30 pounds.

5. Adhere to all policies and procedures including OSE standards.

6. Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with internal and external partners and guests.

7. Ensure that the salon is staffed and properly trained to offer grooming services during all hours of operations.

8. Directly supervises the Grooming Salon partners. Leads and coaches all partners in providing great guest service and performing their assigned task with the objective of achieving budgeted sales.

9. Meet grooming sales projections, control payroll and expenses to meet budget, maintain daily and weekly records, schedule guest grooming appointments, assist in preparation of bi-weekly work schedule.

10. Analyze reports to assess the state of the business and develop action plans to improve where needed to achieve budgets and goals.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Supervise the daily operations of the grooming salon.

2. Complete personal & salon partners' daily grooming sales paperwork(s). Review all grooming partners' paperwork(s) daily to ensure the proper sales are recorded on each pet before turning in to the store leader.

3. Order supplies as necessary for the grooming salon. In partnership with the Guest Experience Leader provide and properly maintain clippers, blades, and other hand tools required to perform grooming services.

4. Assist with building the grooming business (IE: Reminder calls, Book-a-Bath, 3 With Me… Greet guests on the sales floor and or during vaccination clinics to promote grooming services).

5. Ensure Grooming Salon cleanliness, perform routine housekeeping to maintain appearance of the Grooming Salon to Petco standards.

6. Assist the Guest Experience Leader and/or Store Leader in recruiting and hiring salon team members.

7. Provide orientation and training to all new salon partners and monitor productivity.

8. Communicate all situations and/or conditions that affect the salon to the Guest Experience Leader, Store Leader and/or Leader on Duty.

9. Perform all other projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Directly supervise all Grooming Salon partners. Provide guidance and training to salon staff. Test potential applicants for grooming procedures and evaluate skills on other job related tasks. Complete performance evaluations for all salon partners.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with our guests and their dogs and the remaining time will be with the other salon partners. The work environment can be noisy and wet.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

A qualified applicant to this position will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the grooming industry, and either a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is preferred. In addition, the applicant must have at least two years' experience in all breeds grooming and have the ability to monitor and provide direction to all Grooming partners. Previous supervisory experience and prior retail experience are preferred.
