BASIC PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Network Operations Center Specialist is to provide monitoring and triage on infrastructure services on core equipment and supporting services for engineering and other technical teams. It is their duty to ensure maximum possible service availability and performance.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational responsibilities include but are not limited to the categories and tasks listed below

  • IT Operations
    • Utilizing Enterprise monitoring tools, monitor critical sites as well as production and non-production environments, alerting appropriate team(s) on failure or alarm conditions
    • Review the status of scheduled back-up jobs, restarting failed ones as necessary or noting their failure to the Back-up team; coordinate delivery of off-site back-ups to vendor
    • Perform regular datacenter walk-through, noting abnormal system lights, temperatures,  or conditions, reporting to the appropriate team(s) or supervisor(s)
  • Security
    • Support corporate and infrastructure security policies, especially with regards to datacenter and equipment access
  • Situation and Incident Management
    • Maintain updated contact list of all vendors and support personnel and escalation matrix(ices)
    • Forward and analyze all incoming information-alerts, tickets, vendor and IT team notifications, customer calls and reports, etc.-for evidence of incident and scope and escalate per escalation matrix(ices)
    • In case an incident is escalated, open appropriate bridge lines and assist situation management in notifying resolving teams, individuals, and vendors; notify additional personnel or groups as requested by situation, infrastructure, or corporate management
  • Server/Network administration
    • Run reporting, maintenance, and diagnostic scripts, reports, commands, and utilities on behalf of server, database, and network teams
    • Perform symptom recognition and first-level reporting of hardware or system failures to appropriate team(s)
    • Perform basic corrective or troubleshooting tasks under direction of infrastructure team(s) or through pre-approved procedure(s)
  • Project Work
    • Work on various projects as an individual, as well as collaboration with your team and other teams (in and out of IT)
  • Other duties assigned as needed

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • HS Diploma or equivalent required, College Degree preferred
  • Experience:
    • Experience with common OS types and commands is highly desired, including Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012 and Linux (Red Hat and SUSE preferred)
    • ITIL Foundations 3.0, A+, Microsoft Windows Server MCP certifications or equivalent experience helpful
    • Previous IT Support and Customer Service experience a plus

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Personnel should be organized, detail- and process-oriented, with excellent prioritization, analytical, and written and oral communication skills
    • Personnel should be familiar with basic datacenter facilities and processes, including UPS, cooling, fire suppression and security systems, and raised floor architecture and maintenance
    • Understanding of basic server, storage, and network hardware is required, including rack and cable management, cable and port identification (via labeling, color, and\or type) as well as safety and protective procedures for working with energized electrical equipment
    • Must be a team player and participate in team activities and meetings
    • Must be able to work alone
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    • Travel to Oklahoma City company datacenters required
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
    • Must be available to work afterhours and holidays
