Position Summary:

General Tradesman to service Kroger facilities in all aspects of building related repairs. Role model and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform general carpentry, painting, wallpapering, finish work, décor installation, equipment and fixture installation for major capital, minor capital and maintenance projects.
  • Assist the General Tradesman Supervisor as required in the completion of his duties
  • Oversee all aspects of assigned tasks.
  • Prepare estimates and order construction materials for assigned tasks.
  • Schedule and supervise General Tradesmen on assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate and schedule daily work of Kroger Tradesmen and sub-contractors as required to complete assigned tasks
  • Train General Tradesmen and Apprentices so they obtain the required skills.
  • Evaluate store conditions and equipment and assist the maintenance engineer and store Technician in determining the best way to provide maintenance service within this trade area.
  • Assist in determining what parts the maintenance department should stock in order to perform timely and complete repairs and preventative maintenance within this trade area. Specifically, this should be completed at the end of each project. But, the Maintenance Engineer may request assistance at any time.
  • Complete assignments with little or no supervision and the help of one or more apprentice or tradesmen.
  • Determine what parts and tools the WIW Tradesmen should stock on the project and at the shop in order to perform timely and complete remodels. Maintain parts and tools in an accurate and organized manner
  • Maintain effective communications with store personnel in order to reduce maintenance and project cost, especially as it relates to equipment abuse, repeat calls, overtime, and incomplete understanding of the equipment.
  • Clean and maintain company service vehicle, if one is assigned.
  • Properly communicate with Facility Engineering staff, store management, material suppliers and other tradesmen through both written and verbal techniques.
  • Maintain effective communications with store personnel and merchandisers in order to execute tasks effectively and with minimal disruption to store operations.
  • Properly complete all material, equipment and tool purchasing documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Comply with all department and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to travel independently
  • Minimum 2 years field experience with carpentry or building repair
Desired Previous Job Experience
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Experience with building repair or construction
