Overview:
Mercy's Student Nurse Internship positions for seniors will begin this summer, 2016.
MedSurg Internships are available to RN students interested in a career in MedSurg, Mercy Joplin, in their last semester of school. Train one shift a week in a paid SNT position, 8 to 12 hours, with a MedSurg preceptor during the summer and fall semester. Successful participants will be offered a GN position in MedSurg. Highlights/Benefits to Nursing Students
MedSurg experiences and Patient Care Classes Increase knowledge of assessing and interventions for critical changes in patient condition. Critical Thinking Development Multiple opportunities to perform skills such as IV starts, blood drawing and more. Jump Start GN orientation Paid position, opportunity to work as SNT in addition to Internship if desired. SNT positions available starting in June/July.

Education: The Student Nurse must have completed one semester of clinicals to be eligible for the position.

Certifications: PCA Patient Care Associate Training Within 3 Months Of Hire. BLS Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire
Other: Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills are required. Previous healthcare experience is preferred. Should the Student Nurse no longer be in the nursing program, they will revert to Patient Care Associate status if a position is available and have the appropriate pay reduction.
Preferred Education: High School or equivalent preferred.
