Overview

Security Officers I provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, volunteers, physicians and co-workers. Duties include, but are not limited to, making rounds of the medical center complex, investigating incidents, providing services as door locks, escorts, money transports, monitors alarm systems and provides in-service training. Performs related duties as assigned by Director/Manager or designee. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values and Mercy Service Standards.

Works to ensure a safe environment by providing quick and appropriate response to emergencies including codes and calls for assistance. Assesses the situation and makes the appropriate notifications in a calm manner. Patrols grounds and facilities according to standard procedure to provide protection, assistance and control. Operates the security vehicles in a safe manner. Assists in keeping the vehicle clean, serviced and fueled. Reports damages to the vehicles immediately.

Offers excellent customer service by responding to the needs and requests of patients, co-workers and visitors in a pleasant, courteous, service oriented manner. Goes beyond just giving directions. Conducts transports upon request. Provides services in a timely manner.

Provides accurate documentation by keeping accurate daily logs and completing clear, concise reports. Completes all investigation reports in designated format by the end of the shift. Conducts investigations as needed including suspicious activities and/or circumstances, hazardous conditions and complaints. Conducts follow ups and attempts to locate and return missing property.

Ensures compliance by assisting in the prevention and fighting of fires, training Medical Center staff in proper response to fire situations, conducts scheduled fire drills and inspections. Acts under the authority of the Lead Officers and completes in professional manner all tasks/duties assigned by the Lead Officers.

Provides excellent assistance by completing the daily money transfers on time as requested. Makes emergency transports of supplies as needed, and transports co-workers during times of emergencies, as determined by the Lead Officers. Receives patients property upon request and secures it in the vault. Makes valuable returns upon request. Relieves the dispatcher upon request according to the officers abilities and training in that area.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent

Licensure: Valid Class E Drivers License for Missouri (within 60 days of hire). Valid Class C Drivers License for Kansas.

Experience: None required

Certifications: St. John's CALM Training Class within 6 months of hire or previous training meeting the CALM class objectives. BLS Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire.

Other: Must be 21 yrs of age. Must be in excellent physical condition. Fit testing is required for new hires and annually thereafter. Equipment used: Expandable baton (ASP), handcuffs, leather restraints, soft restraints, jumber cables, air tank, AED, wheel lock, radios, dispatch program, security vehicles and emergency lights.

Required on the job training will include, but not limited to CALM, BLS, AED, CLAMP, GRASP, handcuffing, baton, MRI safety, use of force, HAZMAT first receiver, crisis prevention, tactical communications.
