Job Summary

Prepare meals and snacks following all KLC and health standards.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions

These are the basic expectations for Cooks. Of course, creative and new ways to meet or exceed expectations are encouraged, so long as the required essential functions are also met.

* Maintain kitchen and related equipment safely and hygienically

* Orders food and supplies

* Dispenses medication, as requested

* Complies with KLC and all governmental regulations regarding the care of children

* Understands responsibilities as a mandated reporter

* Maintains records in compliance with CACFP guidelines and requirements

* Keeps the Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children

* Completes timely and accurate documentation according to KLC and other licensing or regulation requirements

* Assists and accepts responsibility in other daily center duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available

* Attends and participates in staff meetings, center events, and parent/customer meetings as requested

Skills, Education, and Experience

Required

* Familiarity with proper conditions and food storage

* Ability to plan nutritious menus and prepare sufficient quantity of foods for center population

* Ability to understand and follow special food plans for food-allergic children or children with other food service special needs

* Ability to understand food cross-contamination needs of food allergic children and ability to implement methods of food cross-contamination avoidance

* Basic math skills required for measuring and calculating serving portions

* Food Handler's Card or willingness to obtain

Preferred

* Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation required

* Good organizational skills required

* Familiarity with computers desirable

* Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours required

* CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain desirable

* Valid driver's license, clean driving record, ability to drive center vehicles desirable

* 1 years of institutional cooking experience highly desirable

* 2 years of experience working with children highly desirable

* 1 years of experience ordering food and related supplies desirable

Work Environment/Physical Demands

* Must be able to adapt and excel in a continuously changing, fast-paced environment, and make the children's needs their primary focus.

* Must be able to fully engage in physical activity. They must be able to kneel, stoop, sit on the floor, stand for a long time, and demonstrate and engage in activities like jumping, dancing, walking, and running.

* The ability to lift up to 40 pounds is strongly desired and may be required to work in some classrooms or in the kitchen.

* Work is primarily performed at the site. Daily outdoor work is required but work is otherwise indoors. Work is sometimes performed off site for field trips.

* Must be able to see and hear well enough to monitor classrooms and playgrounds to keep children safe at all times.
