Time Warner Cable currently seeks a/an Network Engineer for our Commercial Engineering Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.

Position Summary:

This position’s main purpose is to manage a group of engineers responsible for the daily operations, deployment and outage resolution for various Managed Service Products associated with Commercial applications. The Network Engineer 2 will work with the IP/Video Design teams and Network Operations departments to assist with the design and implementation of various Managed Services products. These include Video, routing, switching, security, Video Insertion, In Room Entertainment, and Wi-Fi products and customers. Managed Service products are generally associated with Internet and Video access utilizing fiber and coax (DOCSIS) based networks.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain and Operate Wi-Fi, Video, and Managed Routing/Switching Networks consistent with Engineering policy, standards and best practice
  • Configure, service and support routing and switching equipment necessary for the delivery of Hospitality and Managed Services Products
  • Troubleshoot and resolve service level and/or critical and system related issues
  • Document projects including scope, costs, schedule, testing and terms of delivery to ensure project is completed with the highest level of quality, on time and within budget
  • Will participate in an on-call/standby rotation and is expected to respond after hours for service restoration, troubleshooting and/or repair of all necessary equipment
  • Provides technical guidance to other support organizations within Time Warner Cable
  • Test and validate all new hardware, software and connections for proper configuration and performance

Job Requirements:

This position will require a strong engineer within one of the three categories below with additional experience or knowledge in the other listed categories

Video Requirements:

  • Strong Headend, HFC networks, Coax, RF and MPEG engineering knowledge and computer related skills necessary.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of fiber optic and cable television electronic equipment, headend/fiber optic and broadband concepts, RF and analog/digital video equipment, line equipment, converters and earth station antennas, trunk and feeder equipment, passive devices, studio equipment, and building communications equipment.
  • Engineering skills on Scientific Atlanta DNCS, Motorola DAC, Application Server, Encryption Servers, Session Resource Manager (SRM) XOD Server/MAS, TSB, RCAS, set top box, CableCARD devices.
  • VOD & XOD content servers and monitoring servers.
  • Maintain video source mapping, content encryption, and channel lineups for digital services.
  • Ability to demonstrate familiarity with various headend test equipment including fiber optic, DWDM, MPEG, AC-3 and Multicast Video test equipment.
  • Interface with various departments with various technical levels to coordinate service activation and troubleshoot product performance issues, including Billing/IT, Marketing, Corporate, Customer Service, Technical Operations, Engineering/Maintenance, equipment vendors and contractors.
    Routing and Switching
  • Knowledge of routing protocols and LAN/WAN principles.
  • Ability to resolve network problems or infrastructure issues as well as manages performance and capacity issues.
  • Ability to plan, install and manage all aspects of a network to ensure highest performance levels on a 24/7 network infrastructure.
  • Configure, service and support routing and switching equipment necessary for the delivery of Metro Ethernet, Regional Ethernet and Inter-Regional Ethernet services
  • Network routing/switching strategy, solutions, and ongoing technology refresh and enhancements
  • Documenting network routing / switching design standards
  • Perform Design reviews and project engineering.
  • Advanced Technical support for network routing / switching services with Field Operations or other internal team to provide timely resolution to network problem/outage.
  • Provide Technical leadership and guidance to junior personnel
  • Implement engineering designs

Wireless:
  • Experience with 802.11 Wireless site survey software including AirMagnet highly desirable.
  • Experience with RF spectrum analyzers highly desirable
  • Expertise and demonstrated experience with TCP/IP.
  • Expertise and demonstrated experience in data transport networks.
  • Experience with telecommunication and ISP services for commercial customers required
  • In-depth knowledge of network environments (LAN, WAN, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of managed internet services such as web filtering, firewalls, and VPN architectures.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching products to including security
  • Must have strong background in 802.11, OSI Model knowledge, and engineering experience of layers 1 through 3.
  • Must have solid understanding of RF issues within the test environment, attenuators, antennas, etc.
  • Strong solution architecture and customer solution problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of PHP or Python heavily preferred
  • Basic and advanced routing/switching (CCNA equivalent), Wi-Fi, and cable television courses.
  • A minimum of 24 months experience troubleshooting and repairing video or similar electronic systems or minimum of 24 months experience troubleshooting and repairing Complex Routing/Switching Networks or minimum of 24 months experience troubleshooting and repairing Wi-Fi systems is required
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Good customer relation skills are required.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be a self-starter. This position requires a high degree of independent decision making and autonomous function.
  • Requires excellent analytical, problem solving, and trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple contacts and projects. Local travel will be required.
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to interpret network, site layout, and cabling diagrams.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.
Additional Educational Information (if any): CCNA Routing/Switching, Security, Wireless or equivalent
