We have a full-time/part-time opening for a Transportation - Lead Driver.
Must be able to work various shifts per week.
Requirements
In general, the essential functions of the Transportation - Lead Drivers will be to effectively and efficiently carry out all of the tasks and duties of a driver as well as assisting the Transportation Supervisor with their responsibilities when they are out. More importantly they are responsible for monitoring routes; training new drivers on proper procedures; moving units to the dock in appropriate route order; collecting and reviewing completed daily temperature logs for each driver’s truck; ensures that the cross docked freight gets loaded on the proper trucks; ensures that the drivers receive any special or additional information for the customer from management; ensures Pre-Trip Truck Inspections are being done routinely and accurately and finally audits any driver paperwork for accuracy and corrects information when needed. The Transportation - Lead Drivers may assist other drivers in their daily activities and must perform all other duties as assigned on an as needed basis. The Transportation – Lead Driver reports to the Transportation Supervisor and checks in with the Transportation Supervisor at the beginning and end of every shift.
Routine Driver Functions and Responsibilities:
- Acquires knowledge of several routes with deliveries in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.
- Loads and delivers customer orders on time and in a quality manner
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times by displaying excellent customer service skills and knowledgeable technical capabilities.
- Demonstrate a serious interest in the customers business and creates good relationships.
- Acquires written acceptance by customer of order and collects payment when necessary.
- Constantly look for opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and resolve problems according to procedure
- Keeps company vehicles clean at all times
- Operates loading equipment/vehicles in a safe, courteous and efficient manner.
- Maintain vehicle readiness daily/report any vehicle problems through Pre-Trip Truck Inspection Process

- Must be able to climb in and out of delivery truck
- Must be able to lift / pull / push 75% - 100% of the time
- Heavy work: must be able to lift 75 pounds often

- Must be able to write clearly
- Must be able to operate delivery equipment 100% of the time.
- Must be able to stand and walk; must have mobility to load truck and deliver inventory
- Ability to learn geography and traffic patterns to select appropriate alternative routing when necessary
- Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
Job Qualifications:
- Valid state driver’s license and State DOT Medical Certification
- Requires High School Diploma
- Prior experience in wholesale trade industry preferred.
- Basic arithmetic ability needed to count and take inventory
