What is my job:

The Beer Category employee shares knowledge and expertise to guide and educate customers with their purchases. In this role, you will drive sales by creating interest and enthusiasm for the vast offerings of products. You will build relationships with our broad spectrum of Beer customers, from experts to the “aspiring” beer customers interested in broadening their knowledge. How do I make a difference:


Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service
  • Proactively approach customers, educate them about unique product offerings, make suggestions for meal pairings, and help to locate the products they are looking for
  • Familiarize self with products in the department as well as inventory in the backroom to better assist customers in locating items and product availability
  • Educate team members about products in the department, understanding the different characteristics and being able to communicate the differences
  • Ensure employees are up to speed on what’s new and profiles for new items; provide sellers and team members with talking points on featured beers


Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients
  • Assist Grocery Manager and Team Leader with merchandising ideas and event planning
  • Maintain the overall appearance of the department, ensure fresh product and levels are sustained and that items are well-merchandised in innovative, eye-appealing displays while recognizing seasonal, holiday and weather effects on product sales
  • Be the Liaison between customers, vendors, the Grocery Management team, and Merchants on new craft beer opportunities and trends
  • Educate and ensure team members are properly handling products, using equipment, keeping accurate logs, and following sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

Qualifications

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery, or retail setting
  • Possess a passion for Beer and sharing knowledge with others

  • Able to problem solve, anticipating, analyzing, and identifying problems, responding quickly when situations arise and preventing problems when possible


What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?
  • Managerial/ supervisory experience
  • Cicerone Beer Server Certification (advanced knowledge of beer, identifying tastes, and serving)


Work environment:
  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 8 – 32 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally to frequently
  • May be exposed to various allergens
  • Work requires the safe and proper handling of power equipment
  • Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand without a break for up to 4 hours


Other:
  • This position requires the candidate to be available during peak sales hours for the department. Weekend availability is required.
  • Employment at Wegmans may be contingent upon your completion and our evaluation of a drug screen physical and/or criminal background check

Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older.

Days/Hours Requirement: Available to work various shifts Monday-Thursday 4 pm – 9 pm and Friday-Sunday 12 am – 8 pm. Weekends are a must.
