JOB DESCRIPTION

The Sample Management Office Logistic Technician acts as a skilled specialist in accordance with applicable policies and non-routine procedures to maintain supply stocks (administration of min/max inventory systems) to support environmental sample collection, preparation, and shipment. This individual will also be involved in the preparation and shipment of samples for off-site analysis. The function supports sample shipment, logistics and tracking.
Primary job responsibilities include the following:

  • Develops, implements and maintains laboratory procurement process. Processes shall align with client’s requirements for equipment acquisition, material receipt and waste tracking and inventory control systems independently from other staff, using a high degree of creativity and initiative.
  • Develops and controls inventory control processes, plans, procedures and programs for the PCAPP Laboratory to ensure timely issuance of requisitions and material receipt to prevent lab shutdown.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of inventory and property control systems by analyzing problems, recognizing trends and discrepancies and providing creative solutions.
  • Provides technical input into the development and control of client directed procurement process and recommends techniques for improving or implementing new approaches, reducing project costs or increasing control measure level of confidence.
  • Develop, train and mentor other staff members to complete project objectives as required in areas pertaining procurement, materials management, inventory and supply control, and property accountability processes.
  • Working with site stakeholders and regulatory guidelines to develop safe and compliant shipment pathways and options that need project timelines and requirements.
  • Coordinating and verifying the packing and shipment of environmental samples for transport to off-site laboratories for further analysis.

Each incumbent is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling self-aid/buddy-aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks as requested, and serving on safety committees and teams as requested. In addition, the incumbent must accept the responsibility for maintaining the safety of themselves and others by adhering to all written and verbal instructions, promptly reporting and/or correcting all hazards or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to site leads and management on all safety issues.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • High school diploma with four (4) years experience is required performing similar duties as described above. Bachelor’s degree Inventory Management or equivalent with a one (1) years experience is preferred.
  • Excellent PC skills which may include database entry/management (e.g. Windows OS, Access, MS Office Suite).
  • Self-initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule and organize work.
  • International Air Transport Association (IATA) Certified

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOT shipping regulations, sample preservation, collection and handling techniques highly desired.
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities. This position will be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts (12 hours nominally), including weekends and holidays.
  • This position involves work near or with toxic and hazardous materials and requires ability to wear protective clothing/mask. Must be clean-shaven; must wear seat belts when driving or riding in vehicles on post.
  • Previous experience working in an environmental or waste water laboratory, waste management or treatment facility or other production oriented laboratory environment highly desired.
