This position is responsible for coordinating the workflow of the associates and tasks in a designated departmental area. This position will support the Store Management team in all department related activities and the pursuit of all Store operating goals. This position is also responsible for acting as a Manager-on-Duty and providing leadership of guest focus within the store and supporting a positive associate experience throughout the store.

Responsibilities
A. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Enhance the Guest experience through positive interaction and offering assistance.
2. Enhance associate engagement through positive leadership behaviors and communication.
3. Ability to perform all Leader on Duty activities and business-driving strategies effectively on a consistent basis.
4. Participate in interviewing, provide input for selection, and assist in the development of new and transferring associates to achieve company standards.
5. Monitor departmental performance goals and review necessary reports to strategize in the planning and execution department activities. Create established timelines for layout changes, signage, freight placement, markdowns and recovery, as necessary.
6. Follow company policies and procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
7. Maintain awareness to detect common signs of ticket switching, mis-mated merchandise, shoplifting, theft and other security risks involving guests and associates. Promptly communicate potential problems to store management or loss control.
8. Conducts business in an ethical and socially responsible manner, exhibits behavior that properly represents Gordmans at all times.
9. Acknowledge and pro-actively greet all Guests in a pleasant and courteous manner.
10. Actively promote company contests and initiatives and provide recognition, motivation and coaching to others.
11. Interpretation and planning of merchandising challenges to include, but not limited to, heavy/light inventory levels, store layout differences from documentation and adaption for fixtures available.
12. Communicate clearly with Management, co-workers, and associates to provide proactive information regarding status of projects including feedback on associate performance and productivity.
13. Department Leaders are required to know and perform the essential duties of the sales associate, stockroom associates and guest services functions, including resolving issues and unloading trucks, as business requires or as directed by an appropriate supervisor.
14. Must be at least 21 years old.
15. Supervise associates in the absence of Store Management.
16. Open Availability -- When business needs dictate it, Management and Department Leaders must be flexible in terms of working hours and/or work schedule in order to manage the organization’s workflow (this includes nights and weekends).

B. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

17. Assist guests by carrying purchases outside the store.
18. Retrieve and return shopping carts to designated area.
19. Perform other related job duties as assigned by store management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
2. Computer proficiency skills
3. Ability to train, lead, motivate, coach and assist in the corrective action of others effectively towards the accomplishment of the store and company objectives.
4. Ability to sufficiently understand the English language in order to communicate with individuals at all levels in the company and with various business contacts outside of the company in an articulate, professional manner. Ability to read price tag information; ability to read guest checks, guest identification and similar written materials.
5. Basic English language writing skills for completion of payment processing, guest checks and void paperwork on void transactions.
6. Basic mathematical skills, including addition and subtraction, necessary to verify payment and unit counts.
7. Ability to grasp and lift or otherwise move merchandise weighing up to thirty pounds.
8. Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate cash registers and pallet jacks and manually complete required paperwork.
9. Visual ability, corrected, to observe and detect signs of shoplifting or dangerous behavior at a distance of 30 yards and to verify guest identification at a close range. Must be able to distinguish between subtle shades of coloring on merchandise.
10. Ability to stand and continuously perform essential job functions for up to an eight and on-half hour shift, with two fifteen minute breaks and one half hour meal break.
11. Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within two weeks after beginning work.
12. Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background screen.

Education and Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required
2. 1 to 3 years of retail experience required.
3. Two-year college degree or equivalent retail management experience preferred.
