Job Overview:

Reporting to the SVP of Digital Technology, this key role leads three critical areas of our software delivery capabilities:
1. Mobile Apps – assumes overall accountability and responsibility for the technical delivery of customer-facing mobile app experiences. In addition, the VP is the primary technical owner for all key app development external technical partnerships.
2. Merchandising systems – own overall responsibility of merchandizing tools needed to process the data that serves our customer facing channels. This includes overall development, QA and maintenance of these systems.
3. Marketing Domain- this includes ownership of customer facing applications and experiences that help us bring more customers to our digital channels and help with retention--SEO, loyalty, wallet etc.
This is a challenging and exciting position that requires strategic leadership, exceptional management, strong cross-team & cross-functional coordination/collaboration and even stronger communication skills working with senior management, technology leadership peers, key business partners, technical staff, and external partners. Someone with great interpersonal skills, who also enjoys dealing with tight schedules and has the capability to solve complex problem will thrive in our high energy, fast paced environment.
As a VP of Engineering you would be leading multiple development & services teams for the Macys.com and Bloomigdales.com brands, hire and retain the best talent for the teams. You would be in charge of building and maintaining world class services platform, websites, and automation and keep it stable, scalable and available. You would be responsible for implementation of technical strategy and governance across various development teams. You would be primarily responsible for areas of Marketing, merchandizing systems, and Mobile applications( native experiences) .You would be responsible for evangelizing the pillars of truth for technology strategy, architecture/technical principles, guidelines and ensuring that these are implemented in the actual software solutions built across your engineering teams. You will be partnering with cross-functional engineering teams to come up with the technology strategy & guidelines and then oversee their adherence across multiple critical projects.

Essential Functions:

• Lead the development, establishment, and enforcement of development and architectural standards for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles
• Apply established metrics to determine the readiness, quality, and operability of software, systems, and products due for release to clients and/or within the enterprise
• Proactively improve the overall software delivery process for these areas, streamlining our ability to predictably deliver software
• In partnership with other technology groups across the business unit and the enterprise, ensure reusability of key technology assets is at the core of every solution
• Lead a distributed and growing organization – both employees and an ever-increasingly complex onshore/offshore contractor network
• Plan and conduct performance appraisals of development staff, administer disciplinary action, raises, bonuses, and promotions when necessary
• Budget responsibilities for full time employees, contractors, software, hardware and services spend
• Evaluates, selects, and implements software packages to improve efficiency for areas of responsibility

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field required. MA/MS in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field strongly preferred
• Overall 15+ years of experience in the software development and high volume enterprise systems
• 7+ years of experience in managing and overseeing enterprise level programs, which require extensive collaboration across various groups in a matrix organization
• 8+ years of extensive Java / JEE design and architecture experience with a focus on server side components
• 5+ years of experience with open source technology technologies preferably within a high volume eCommerce environment
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, and training diverse personnel in business, development, operations and quality assurance teams focusing on high performance and professional development
• Expertise in architecture & development application and platform components based on SOA architecture
• Experience in building scalable, high performing and robust eCommerce applications (with a focus on Java)
• Experience and passion to work in a fast paced Agile environment, delivering functional features in small time durations
• Experience and knowledge of cloud enabled services / applications

• Demonstrable presentation, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

and their application
