Senior Solution Engineer: Retail Systems - Marlborough, MA (110371) - Full-time

Solution Engineer II

The Selling Solution Engineer II will provide solution expertise and have technical ownership of a subset of applications and programs in the TJX North America Selling and Payments Solution Engineering domain. The Selling Solution Engineer II will work with the Solution Delivery team members (BA, QA, PM, Developers) along with other IT teams to ensure a high quality design and delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Provides technical direction for the design of complex and large scale systems solutions to effectively meet business needs. Provides leadership for the solution design of projects that address key business needs, including the analysis of multiple solution options.
• Partner with the Enterprise Architecture team on the creation of the conceptual architecture that addresses the high level business requirements. Participate in Solution Architecture Reviews for applicable projects.
• Authors’ complex macro level technical designs that define how the functional requirements will be technically enabled.
• Provides guidance to an extended project team related to the solution architecture and technical design. Assists and advises project teams in the configuration, testing, implementation and support of technical solutions.
• Partners to define and validate detailed estimates and sizing for complex project requests.
• Maintains estimate artifacts for solution designs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintains expert knowledge in multiple business applications/services or a critical highly integrated Enterprise business application/service supporting a given domain. Has a solid understanding of the end to end business application processes in a given domain. Provides input into technical application roadmaps including the recommendation of IT driven projects.
• Consults on design approaches to solving visible and complex business problems. Provides technical subject matter expertise and insight related to the business applications in a given domain.
• Responsible for technical solution approach and macro design for complex and large projects or defined components of Enterprise projects.
• Recommends technical solution alternatives based on variances of scope, budget and timeline
• Recommends IT driven initiatives to enable key technical characteristics of business applications/services in their area of expertise.
• Provides input into design best practice methodologies and standards. Defines standards for specific processes and/or components.
• May mentor one or more junior members of the team
• Special projects / other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge:

• Extensive experience interpreting functional needs and writing or editing solution designs for new systems, systems changes or system enhancements
• Previous experience in the design phase of complex systems projects
• Specific packaged application and technology expertise in alignment with specific domains.
• Technology design experience which includes Performance, Security, Availability, as well as Operations, Monitoring and Support.
• Strong knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and PCI/PII policies and controls.
• Solid functional understanding of the business processes supported in a given domain’s business applications.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and written communication skills to frequently interact with all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and within cross functional project teams that span multiple time-zones.
• Ability to understand the big picture and the short term perspectives of specific situations.
• Ability to influence others to achieve results.
• Strong problem solving and analytic skills
• Strong consulting, leading and mentoring skills
• Expert knowledge of the software development lifecycle
• Ability to alter direction easily to accommodate changing priorities

Minimum Experience/Education

• 8+ years of IT experience.
• 3+ years of experience in technology and systems design roles and implementation of systems supporting retail store operations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in technology, information systems, engineering or equivalent.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Experience with Point of Sale systems and POS device integration
• Experience working in a Retail environment
• Experience working with System integrators leveraging a Global Workforce
• Experience working in a controlled/validated environment (Sarbanes Oxley)
