CS EMPLOYMENT DESCRIPTION: Includes all positions not specifically exempted from Career Service under the provisions of Section 110.205(2), Florida Statutes, or other provision of Law.

PAY RATE: $25,479.22 -- $34,330.94

WORKING HOURS: Full-time position, Monday -- Friday 7:15am-2:45pm -- 7 hrs per day - 35 hours per week

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION & DUTIES:

Health Room (Clinic) (Observes and assesses students and provides comfort measures. Reports health trends and problems or changes in health status to the supervising nurse for a complete nursing assessment. Assists/ performs basic first aid and CPR for students and staff. Records health room services on approved log or computer program, and as appropriate, in student's cumulative health record. makes parental contact for ill or injured students. Administers medications as prescribed and monitors students receiving medications.(Requires LPN or nursing License). Maintains documentation of medication administration according to policy. (8) Maintains a clean and orderly health room and orders needed supplies. Collects data in computer system to accurately reflect all services provided in the health room by self or other providers and reports data regularly according to school health and DOH policies. Documents health services according to accepted medical documentation standards in student record and Health Office Electronic record. Performs specialized procedures within scope of practice of an LPN License and as delegated by the RN.

Health Screenings - Performs screenings, vision hearing scoliosis, growth, BMI, dental and hypertension as required by school health policy and state mandates. Assist RN to perform rescreens of students who fail initial screen as needed. Records results in students cumulative health record. Makes referrals for abnormal findings to parents. Keeps accurate record of referrals made, number of follow-ups and outcomes. Informs supervising nurse of progress with referrals.

Case Management - Assists the supervising nurse with case management of students with health related problems. May make follow-up telephone calls. Keeps supervising nurse informed about all case management activities. Refers suspected child abuse, pregnant teens, possible substance abuse, suicidal discussions, students with emotional problems and any other non-routine incidents directly to administration and supervising nurse. Follow State statutes for reporting suspected child abuse. (3) Implements IHCP's, reports student outcomes or changes in health status to staff and supervisor when indicated.

Record Review: Reviews the health records of all students for proper documentation of immunizations and physical examination. Purges health folders of duplicate forms. Notifies parents of instances of incomplete immunizations, lack of physical examination and tracks completion of required documentation. Assist in obtaining records from previous schools when possible. Identifies documented chronic health problems and refers to RN for development of Individual Health Care Plans for those students. (Requires LPN license). Keeps school administration informed about incomplete immunizations, physical examinations and records. Assures appropriate maintenance and confidentiality of health records in student files and data system. Maintains Health Alerts for students with chronic conditions and keeps teachers and staff informed and updated on a regular basis.

Health Education: Assist the school in promoting positive health and hygiene practices by reinforcing education in the health room as the need arises. Assist with the preparation of and provides presentation of staff in-services and student education as directed by supervising nurse. (Requires LPN license). Provides individual education to students, parents and staff as approved by the nursing supervisor. (Require LPN license). Assists with training school personnel responsible for administering medications in the absence of health staff. (Requires LPN License)

Attends selected training workshops and in-service programs. Will participate in school safety committees, school advisory committees and IEP teams at the request of the nurse supervisor. Performs other job related duties as assigned by supervisor. May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of emergency conditions.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

Licensed Practical Nurse with experience in healthcare setting. Experience in educational setting desired. Knowledge of principals and techniques of written and verbal communication. Ability to organize independently, and deliver services according to policy, procedures and student Individual Health Care Plan. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to collect data and submit in a specified time frame. Ability to physically move in a school and office environment. Ability to transport self to school and work locations independently. Have skills for operation of a menu driven computerized electronic medical record system. Physically capable of moving office materials and supplies in boxes with a weight up to 40 lbs.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Florida Nursing License, Current CPR and First Aide Certification, Valid Florida Driver License
