About this job

The MT performs routine and preventative maintenance on feeder/distribution and trunk systems in order to maintain system performance standards. Additionally, the MT will perform the duties of a Field Technician when required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows established troubleshooting procedures to identify faults within the subscriber drop, feeder/distribution and trunk systems to ensure proper signal level, picture quality and compliance with all Local, State, Federal laws; and Time Warner Cable requirements and standards.

Corrects faults in the aforementioned systems by adjusting, repairing or replacing passive and/or active components as required to maintain appropriate standards as established by Time Warner Cable.

Utilizes a field strength meter, optical test equipment, spectrum analyzer, QAM analyzer, hand tools and splicing tools to repair and/or make appropriate adjustments to the cable system.

Repairs cable in emergency situations while working on stand-by for a one-week period. Must have the capability to be at outage sites in the 30 minute response time goal, at maximum 60 minutes response time.

Completes and reports test point measurements.

Tests, troubleshoots and repairs two-way cable plant using a Signal Level Meter, two-way diagnostic test equipment or related items, laptop computers, spectrum/QAM analyzer and other specialized test equipment.

Communicates with the Dispatch/Technical Support Center (TSC)/DNOC, Headend Technicians, Digital Services Technicians, subscribers, and others to identify and repair cable problems, as well as to ensure that cable problems have been resolved.

Assists in the installation and activation of fiber optic cable, trunk and feeder coaxial cables related to network operations.
Performs system balance, assists with system sweep operations, and conducts power supply maintenance on a regular basis.

Monitors Cheetah, Path Track and Unified tools on a daily basis to prevent plant outages and improve system reliability.
Maintains and stocks company-issued vehicle with necessary tools and materials to maximize productivity and efficiency.

Recognizes, practices, and enforces Time Warner Cable Safety Rules and Procedures on a consistent basis.

Monitors, detects and repairs issues with cable signal leakage by executing defined procedures using a leakage detection meter/receiver

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Completes preventative and demand maintenance work as required or assigned.

Performs maintenance and repair work on fiber distribution hub equipment.

Must be able to analyze problems at the hub site during emergency situations.

Assists in repair and maintenance of hub/head end equipment as needed.

Provides support to and performs the duties of a Field Technician, as necessary.

Maintains a strong line of open communication with direct Supervisor and management team to address and resolve issues in a timely manner and drive productivity.

Maintains and supports a brand Company image by displaying a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must possess advanced knowledge of cable TV installations, two-way cable equipment and operation and HFC plant fundamentals including equipment operation; modulation schemes to include QPSK and QAM and related transmission methods, two-way radio operation rules and procedures, signal distortion and behavior characteristics of analog and digital signals to include component identification and operation.

Must be able to maintain regular attendance and work overtime and standby duty.

Must possess knowledge of basic electronic theory including Ohm’s law formulas, voltage conversions, basic communication transmission fundamentals, cable TV fundamentals, complete knowledge of all company, FCC/City subscriber specifications, TWC, Federal and State OSHA regulations, and General Order 95 and 128 rules and regulations.

Must possess an understanding of Windows based computer programs and possess the ability to learn other, more specialized programs.

Must be able to climb poles utilizing gaffs and steps while utilizing and wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Must have knowledge of CLI leakage requirements, working strand and lashing wire and general construction and pole line transfers.

Must have knowledge of minor troubleshooting and repairs, signal level and other troubleshooting devices.

Demonstrate proficiency in performing FSM calibrations.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Electronics course work preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of six months experience as a Field Technician 4 or 5 or equivalent is preferred. Experience as FT3 may be considered on a case by case basis.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

Required regular re-certification in gaffing/pole climbing skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to climb 20-30+ feet poles utilizing gaffs and ladders (and must be able to recertify periodically).

Must have manual dexterity and the ability to utilize various hand tools and test equipment.

Must be able to utilize and manipulate hand and splicing tools as well as test equipment

Must be able to lift in excess of 83 pounds.

Must be able to see CRT screen to read and observe cable levels and displays and identify colors.

Must be able to hear in order to ensure that audio signals meet TWC specifications. Must meet and maintain Company’s safe weight policy.

Driving is a requirement for this position. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
