About this job

*****THIS IS A THIRD SHIFT POSITION*****

Job Duties:

Day to day, these people will be responsible for organizing incoming orders in the correct bin location in the warehouse. Boxes will come in through dock doors where they will be unloaded and checked in with an RF Scanner, then taken to the correct location. There is also a conveyor belt that boxes will come in on and these people will be responsible for pulling and sorting the correct location. There is a lift requirement of up to 50 lbs. If they see any damages boxes or product, they need to tell a supervisor. There is no required documentation in this role, and they are not dealing with ticket orders. They may use RF scanners from time to time, and with will definitely use a pallet jack.

It is very important that these individuals keep a good pace of work since driver's that are taking the product away are always on tight time schedules. A lot of the items are paper products and can be heavy (50+lbs) but these folks need to be able to keep up with the pace and realize they are part of a bigger system of getting these products delivered on time.

Taking on their new client, has really caused the amount of items per shift that go through the warehouse. They sort anywhere from 3500 - 4000 pieces per night and they have 10-12 people on the shift. So any one person may be responsible for touching 350 to 400 items per night. They average weight of the items is just 2-7 lbs. but some items way 50 - 70 lbs.

There is not much downtime at this point in time since they are so busy.

Work Environment:

Standard warehouse environment - can get hot in summer - temp set at 50 degrees in winter months. It can get very busy at times and they will be expected to keep up with the pace of the work and not work at their own pace. A lot of times, the driver's are on a tight time schedule when they come to load or unload product so these contractors need to be cognoscente of this and make sure they are working as a team to get the job done in a timely manner. It can be very physical work when trucks come in, but then there could be some downtime in between. When it is busy, it is expected that everyone work together to get everything packed and loaded up (or unloaded) then when it calms down a little they can have a break. The supervisors and other employees do not like it when someone decides to take their break when it is really busy or when they are in the middle of a sorting job.

Qualifications:

Musts: 6+ months warehouse exp, experience with pallet jacks

Preferred: Experience doing visual inspection on incoming shipments, experience with RF, forklift experience.

Performance Expectations:

Expected to work and a good pace and to be proactive when they finish a task and ask for other things to do. they should not be on their cell phones in the warehouse. There is no formal review, they will jut be monitored by supervisors and other managers on their work ethic and attitude. There is always some downtime here and there, so it is expected that employees try to take their breaks during downtime, now in the middle of a job.

Day 1 - be able to use a pallet jack and able to stand on feet all shift and able to lift up to 70 lbs.

Best vs Average: someone who has experience with visual quality checks and who is willing to help others when needed. Also someone who does not gossip or who is not on their cell phone. They have had issues with people taking too long of breaks or not working fast enough and they cannot have this - it sets them too far behind.

Additional Information:

Shift: Third shift. Need to be flexible to start anytime between 1030P-1A and work an 8 hour shift M-F, then a total of up to 6 weekend hours. They are open 7 days a week and need coverage in the warehouse all 7 days and they will flex these people in and out depending on work flow. COMPANY will hold employees to 40 hours a week typically but their could be OT if they are asked to do it or if they are doing a good job and want to.

Breaks: As far as shift breaks go they have two options.

1) Work a straight 8 hour shift with 2 (paid) 15 minute breaks sometime throughout the night (they expect that people take strategic breaks, meaning do not request a break when it is super busy and they are right in the middle of a sort....wait until the job is done then take the break).

2) Work an 8 1/2 hour shift with a 1/2 hour paid lunch (expected to take the lunch at a strategic time as well)
