Job description :

Front desk agents work directly with the guests, and are the first faces you see when arriving to a hotel. These professionals are often the first impression that the guest has of our hotel, and sets the tone for what the guest can expect during their stay. When you take a position as a front desk agent, it's important that you be able to work well under pressure and maintain a consistently pleasant and professional personality when communicating with the guests.

Customer Service and Satisfaction

Providing phenomenal customer service is the most important responsibility of a front desk agent. You should be able to greet guests and answer their questions in a friendly, conversational manner. You also must be able to communicate effectively with other members of the staff and maintain a professional attitude even in the face of challenges, such as an irate guest. As a front desk agent you must strive to provide guests with the best experience possible and work to solve problems quickly rather than have a guest leave with a bad impression of the property.

Computer Proficiency

As a front desk agent you spend a lot of time working on a computer. Front desk agents make reservations, check guests in and out and process payments. In this position you are also required to use email to communicate to guests, clients and outside vendors as well as your boss or other company employees. To accomplish these tasks you may have to be trained on the company's property management software before beginning work as a front desk agent. You also should be able to perform at least basic functions on the computer such as utilizing word processing and email programs.

Problem Solving

The front desk agent is often the first person to encounter a guest that has an issue while on the property, such as a late arrival or a change in reservation arrival or departure date. Front desk agents are not only told about these problems but they are expected to solve them. Part of the problem-solving aspect of a front desk agent's job duties is to anticipate issues before they happen. For instance if a guest is staying at our hotel for business reasons, the clerk should provide Internet access information at check-in rather than waiting until the guest asks for it.

Front Desk and Lobby Presentation

One of the job duties of a front desk agent is to make sure that the lobby area is ready for guests and corporate account mangers. To do this, the FDA must ensure that the lobby area is clean, neat and free of clutter. The FDA makes sure that newspapers are in the correct place, there is no litter, that any cups or glasses are collected and cleaned and the desk is clutter free. In this position the FDA is responsible for restocking any business cards or commonly used forms in the front desk area.
