Our Baldwin county client is looking for a laboratory quality assistant.  This position ensures that data results from his/her lab are accurate. She/he insures all safety (HACCP) and quality assurance (FDA) procedures are followed and always comply with plant protocols and regulations.

Skill Set

A combination of analytical, communication and reasoning skills are a must to accurately and efficiently maintain and work within the laboratory and processing facility. The laboratory quality assistant must be able to read and understand policies regarding safety and quality assurance procedures for use in both the lab and processing facility. The laboratory quality assistant must be able to read and understand reports regarding laboratory equipment, to ensure everything is operating in a safe and efficient manner. Laboratory manuals often utilize industry words, phrases and diagrams, thus the quality assistant must be able to read and interpret these documents.

Primary Responsibilities

As one of the persons in charge for ensuring results of the highest quality, the lab quality assistants utilizes systems to monitor data quality and performance. He/she also confirms that procedures adhere to safety and compliance guidelines and regulations. The lab assistant’s position is to conduct testing in timely manner, personally reviewing any abnormal results to find the root of any irregularity. He/she may be requested to work with vendors, thus verifying whether they follow current lab standards.

Secondary Tasks

The laboratory quality assistant may be asked to respond to inquiries with unsatisfied customers, researching discrepancies to see if an error was made and explain any resulting corrective procedures. He/she may also serve as a company representative during all lab audits, assisting auditors with any inquiries and reporting all findings to management.

Education and Certifications

The laboratory quality assistant must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a science or quality management specialty. Continuing education and course work providing certifications is also desirable. GMP, Six Sigma, ISO 9000, ISO 15189 or ISO 17025 are recommended.

Position Responsibilities

  • Follow procedures to inspect and report quality issues
  • Monitor all operations that affect quality
  • Supervise and guide inspectors, technicians
  • Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output
  • Report all malfunctions to production executives to ensure immediate action
  • Keep records of quality reports, statistical reviews and relevant documentation
  • Ensure all legal standards are met
  • Communicate with quality assurance manager during on-site inspections
  • If operations develops a threat to processing safety, product safety and/or equipment malfunction, an order to ‘stop’/’terminate’ operations can be given by the QA/QC manager.

Position Requirements

  • Proven knowledge of quality and analytical protocol or relevant role
  • Thorough knowledge of methodologies of quality assurance and standards
  • Excellent numerical skills and understanding of data analysis/statistical methods
  • Good computer skills; i.e. MS Office and other databases
  • Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Great attention to detail and a results driven
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Reliable and Trustworthy
  • BSc or relevant field
  • Certification of quality control is a strong advantage (ISO 9000 etc.)
  • Knowledge of HACCP and FDA guidelines
