POSITION SUMMARY


As a member of the Finance Business Partner SS/ES team in the Americas Finance division, this position will assume a key role in achieving financial objectives through specialized knowledge in financial and operational space. This resource will provide support primarily in areas related to the business planning, operating budgeting, forecasting, capital budgeting processes, and reporting and analysis for the domestic-based, managed brands in the SS/ES portfolio. Duties may expand to other brands as determined by business needs.

The Business Analyst – Senior – SS/ES will partner with internal and external stakeholders, to include Consultants, Owner Services Representatives, Discipline and Brand and Regional leaders.


EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION

Capital Expenditure Process

  • Assist with the overall facilitation of Marriott’s capital expenditure budget and forecasting processes
  • Conduct budget review to ensure that budgets appropriately reflect Marriott’s capital strategy and provide appropriately recommendations to market financial and operations leaders
  • Perform budget analysis and identify funding shortfalls and to support the resolution of other capital expenditure business issues.
  • Collaborate with Accenture’s Capital Accounting and Administration team to ensure that information needs are met and that capital processes are working effectively
  • Provide subject matter expertise input in the development of the GM and AGM Finance training modules
  • Facilitates capital expenditure forecasts in support of Marriott’s annual budgeting process
  • Accountable for provide capital expenditure analysis in support of acquisitions, refinancing’s and other workouts
  • Manage status of capital projects and drive accountability to align with the overall business direction
  • Partner with the HQ Governance team to update and communicate capital expenditure policies and procedures to the market organization, ensuring consistency with GAAP, MIPs, and Management Agreements. Monitor compliance with policies and procedures; ensure that strong internal controls are in place
  • Support stakeholders (i.e. Finance Business Partner, Operations, Owner Services, A&C, Brand Management and discipline leads) in developing and communication of budgeting strategy and guidelines
  • Coordinate budget schedules and reports for presentation to Senior Management and Owners
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining positive market contacts to ensure a climate of teamwork across stakeholders, and to stay abreast of market activity
  • Provide support to Hotel GM’s and Regional teams during the annual SS/ES capital budgeting process
  • Partner with Information Resources, external consultants, customers and other Americas Finance team members to develop and continuously improve budgeting tools and systems
  • Manage project-specific inquiries of senior management and other stakeholders


Operating Budgeting and Forecasting Process

  • Partner with the Director, Finance-SS/ES to deliver annual operating budget guidelines
  • Provide operational analysis to support Marriott’s annual budgeting process and identify gaps
  • Conduct and provide various data analysis to support the forecasting process, including tracking and reporting out on hotel submission
  • Manage planning/preparation process of budget schedules and reports for report-out to Senior Management and Owners
  • Collaborates with internal corporate and regional departments, Area Directors and new opening-hotels General Managers to assist in the preparation and posting of stub year operating budgets as necessary
  • Actively participate in the development, continuous improvement and testing of budgeting tools and systems
  • Communicate operating forecasts to appropriate stakeholders

Reporting and Analysis

  • Conduct market based reporting and operations analysis and provide recommendations on findings, to include owner specific Ad hoc requests
  • Develop, create and maintain brand and owner portfolio analysis. Analyze performance with actionable information for monthly distribution to Americas Regional leaders and Owner Account reps.
  • Develop analytical reporting and tracking tools for key operational and brand initiatives. Identify business challenges and opportunities
  • Assist with development of presentations and financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor the implementation/performance results of brand standards to drive accountability and optimize results
  • Manage monthly financial reporting and analysis for multiple standard reporting packages including, but not limited to, SS/ES Benchmarking Tool, CYRB Individual Property Reports, SS/ES Escrow Report, Brand Consolidation Reports, and Brand Margin Bridges
  • Develop processes necessary to ensure accurate, timely and meaningful sharing of financial information to key stakeholders
  • Perform other special projects as assigned

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • BS/BA in accounting, finance or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting/finance experience.
  • Marriott experience in hotel accounting/finance a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques of accounting, and of financial records and transactions including, but not limited to, generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong communications (verbal and written), organization and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of operating procedures, controls and governances
  • Ability to leverage resources in the accomplishment of objectives
  • Exceptional organizational skills. Effective in prioritizing work and following through on commitments. Project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work with and communicate effectively with all levels of management
