Summary of Duties
The Director is responsible for the overall operation of a department or departments and assists hospital administration in accomplishing organizational objectives and goals. They assume 24-hour responsibility and accountability of system functions, staff performance, and patient care/services. Specifically, department directors help create an environment that enables a hospital to fulfill its mission and meet or exceed its goals. They motivate staff to improve their performance continuously, thereby improving hospital performance. Director Non-clinical - Direction/Supervision: Directs and supervises planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating patient care or services in a department according to pre-defined standards. Director Clinical - Clinical/Nursing Process: Functions as a role model in select clinical specialty, demonstrating competency in clinical judgment, select technical skills and appropriate knowledge base. Provides clinical direction to staff and evaluates the level of care provided by the staff. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patients/significant others rights, as identified by the institution. Note: Directors that do not possess license/certification are responsible for assigning appropriate lead personnel.

Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure: Current California License
B.S.N.
Masters degree preferred
Current BLS card (in clinical areas)
Demonstrates advanced level problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities
Prior proven experience and expertise in clinical area relevant to unit patient population (minimum 4 to 8 years clinical work) and/or: Prior proven experience and expertise in management, either in first line or in shift supervisory work
Emotional stability to deal with crises, continuous interruptions, high prolonged stress of management staff, patient care and physical environment, counseling/coaching staff, providing disciplinary action, positively interacting with medical staff and support services during times of stress and constant change
Excellent verbal and written skills for high level communication within the hospital and at interdisciplinary and administrative meetings and meeting high demands for developing written proposals, preparing budgets, writing evaluations and developing standards and Performance Improvement (PI) reports
Strong mental/intellectual abilities of critical thinking, comparative analysis, statistical control application, and decision making to provide direction to area staff and assist Executive leadership with hospital wide program planning/execution/evaluation
Strong organization and self discipline with attention to detail and accuracy
