Job Overview:

As an Operations Engineer for Macys.com, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the implementation and configuration of real-time monitoring, alerting and reporting of Macys.com infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Databases, Applications, etc.). A successful Operations Engineer works well under pressure and relies on extensive experience and judgment to proactively implement and configure monitoring solutions. The Operations Engineer is part of the Operations Team and partners with System Administrators, Database Administrators, Architects, Application Support teams and Project Managers to plan and implement complex, technical monitoring solutions and architecture. The Operations Engineer will utilize best practices and provide recommendations to improve problem identification and response time in Macys.com systems.

Operations Engineers define, track and maintain the standard baselines and configuration sets of Macys.com global infrastructure and implement industry best practices.

Technical support tasks within the Operations team will also be a big part of the job such as break/fix support and change implementation. Late coverage for after-hours production change work, incident escalation, smoke tests, run audits, etc. Work on support tasks as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• Implements and maintains Splunk infrastructure and configurations
• Creates and maintain alerts, dashboards, reports, scripts, or other tools within the Splunk system to maintain system health and integrity for all system, applications, hosts, data ingestion, forwarder status, etc
• Thoroughly documents system configuration and changes using Confluence
• System management for clustering, deployment, licensing, and other server functions
• Collaborates with vendor and internal teams on technology challenges and trends
• Documents the cause and resolution of outages
• Manages application enhancements to improve performance and stability
• Experience with administration of Splunk Search Heads Clustering, Indexers, and Forwarders
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
• Evaluation and implementation best practices and standards
• Drive monitoring strategies, processes and resource planning with internal teams such as development teams and application Support Teams
• Automate and optimize processes where efficiencies can be gained
• Respond to Operations incidents
• Keep management and appropriate teams informed of high level support issues
• Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• 5+ years in a Linux / Unix Operations Production Support role or similar role
• 3 – 4 years as a Splunk Administrator
• 2+ years SQL experience
• 3+ years of experience in Infrastructure and application performance monitoring
• Products used are primarily (but not limited to) Splunk Search Head Clustering
• Synthetic Monitoring experience/Transaction Based Monitoring
• 3+ years analyzing, designing, installing and maintaining computer systems/servers
• 3+ years performing configuration and maintenance of Sun, Linux, AIX and windows systems
• Technical background in capacity management. 2 years equivalent experience
• Experience working in cross-functional, multi-location teams
• Hands on knowledge of ELK Stack, Zabbix, and Rapid monitoring tool sets.
• Hands on knowledge of HP Monitoring tools such as BPM, BSM, OMi, and SiteScope
• Hands on knowledge of Java, HTML, XML, MySQL, LAMP programming
• Experience with Confluence
• Internet / E-Commerce application development experience
• Working Knowledge of VMWare, Citrix
• Perl, Bash and windows shell scripting
