Area Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Manages and leads the EHS processes for the following facilities: Chicago Heights, IL, Fairbury, IL and Richmond, IN for continuous improvement of the environmental, health, and safety program within the plant. In addition, the role will require the individual to serve as a facilitator for required meetings and training sessions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The EHS Manager will serve as an EHS liaison between management staff and the hourly workforce in the daily administration of the EHS program at multiple locations.
  • In addition, the position will require the individual to represent management during Company/Union EHS Meetings along with the other plant personnel.
  • On a periodic basis, a formal facility EHS inspection is to be conducted in relation to applicable OSHA, EPA, ANSI and other regulatory guidelines and company best practices. Reports are to include findings and recommended actions to correct and/or eliminate identified hazards.
  • The EHS Manager will be responsible to lead management personnel in the investigations of plant incidents and complaints regarding unsafe working conditions and practices within the plant in order to identify immediate and root causes.
  • In the event of a regulatory inspection of the plant (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local municipal, etc.), the EHS Manager will be expected to accompany the compliance officers with management personnel and union representatives. In the event of violations identified during a regulatory inspection, the EHS Manager will be expected to coordinate an action plan with plant management to address violations identified by the inspecting agency.
  • The EHS Manager will serve as a facilitator to coordinate hourly and supervisory employee EHS training. In addition, the EHS Manager will be expected to lead in new hire training on the ‘on-boarding’ process. All training will require the preparation of class outlines, maintenance of attendance records, scheduling of classes through coordination with department supervision.
  • The position requires the maintenance of all EHS required records / documents as specified by OSHA, EPA, and workers compensation.
  • In addition, the EHS Manager will be responsible for ensuring plant atmosphere and hygiene compliance.
  • This position is required to perform other duties as assigned by management, which may include purchasing applicable EHS supplies deemed necessary by plant management.
  • Responsible for preparation and completion of applicable reports and inspections required by permits and all other city, county and state permit requirements.
  • Collects and performs analysis of plant effluents and wastes.
  • Prepare permit records as required by Federal and State Environmental programs.
  • Accompany regulatory inspectors on sample collection inspections and provide analysis.
  • Coordinates all aspects of facilities waste program.
  • Keep abreast of all EHS regulations, practices and requirements.
  • Performs other EHS duties as directed by management.
