Functions as an ambassador, is welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients and creates a positive front office patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. Functions as a member of the health care team by assisting in the delivery of patient-focused care by demonstrating excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):

  • Using computer applications
  • Answering telephones
  • Greeting patients
  • Updating and filing patient medical records
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping

Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):

  • Taking medical histories
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Preparing patients for examination
  • Assisting the physician during exams
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Performing basic laboratory tests
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets
  • Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician
  • Authorizing prescription refills as directed
  • Drawing blood
  • Taking electrocardiograms
  • Removing sutures and changing dressings

Requirements:

  • Extremely efficient, organized and resourceful; must also be flexible and able to function well in a fast-paced environment with great interpersonal skills to deal with many personalities.
  • Strong time management skills are critical.
  • Strong decision making skills.
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
  • Must be computer literate w/ a strong typing speed.
  • Education - High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant education program and certified as a Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or registered as a Medical Assistant by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
