Maintenance Worker opening available for a Family-owned, Charlotte based Landscaping business.

Job Description:
Under supervision, performs routine and some semi-skilled manual tasks; does related work as required.  

Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is an entry-level class.  While some previous construction or maintenance experience is desirable, the tasks to be performed may be learned on the job.  A Maintenance Worker may operate a truck on an occasional basis.  Employees in this class are required to perform varied tasks of increasing difficulty to prepare them for promotion as vacancies develop and promotional examinations are announced.

Those assigned to public works duties must:

  • Perform unskilled manual labor such as sweeping, digging, shoveling, lifting, tugging, pulling and carrying of heavy objects, material and equipment.
  • ​Operate equipment such as weed eaters, edger’s, hedge trimmers, etc.
  • ​Operate motor vehicles such as trucks, loaders, backhoes, fork-lifts and other similar maintenance or construction equipment.
  • Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to landscape maintenance.
  • ​May perform tasks normally assigned to members of the next higher classification in the “job family”.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Education and Experience:  Any combination equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and some experience in heavy manual labor.  

Driving of Company Vehicles: State of NC Driver’s License required with clean DMV Record.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Some knowledge of common construction and hand tools, equipment and materials is required.

Must have the ability to:

  • Work with, in and around chemicals and solvents necessary to perform the job.  

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dampness, humidity, dryness, dust, smoke, and noise.

  • Work in, on or around electricity or electrical items, gas, fumes, vibration, slippery or uneven surfaces, wastewater, ladders and scaffolds, confined spaces, water and machinery.

  • Lift, carry, push, tug and pull weights exceeding 50 pounds.

  • Walk, climb, stand, crawl, kneel, bend and use limbs repetitively.

  • Operate motorized equipment.

  • Work with or in moving equipment and/or vehicles.

  • Reach above shoulder height.

  • Use fine motor skills to manipulate small objects.

  • Understand simple oral and written communications in the English language.

  • Perform the essential functions of the classification.
